Discussion with Extreme History Project regarding public outreach alternatives HPAB discussed with Crystal Alegria of The Extreme History Project, the prospect of working together to build support for the Historic Preservation Advisory Board. Alegria mentioned that she was once on the board and that they would hold events during Preservation Week that seemed to garner excitement. Alegria continued to discuss collaboration with the board to get back to promoting Preservation Week together and to work on fundraising and applying for grants in order to fund the event(s). The board also discussed changing this from a weeklong event each year to a promotion all year long. Also discussed was writing a piece on a regular basis in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle featuring different historic structures and events in the community. The board continued to discuss its purpose and how they can fill open board positions, make a meaningful contribution to the City Commission and promote themselves in the community. 2. Discussion of upcoming HPAB retreat Continued to future meeting F. FYI/Discussion 1. Update on Unified Development Code revisions Chris Saunders offered an update on the UDC update and directed board members on where to find the draft (Bozeman.net > City Projects > UDC Update). He also offered information on the deep dive workshops, rotating topics directed toward special groups such as neighborhoods, design professionals, etc. He noted that these meetings are all open to the public. Some topics relevant to the HPAB:  Demolition process  Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) changes  No changes to NCOD and Design Guidelines. If there is a conflict, the NCOD presides. 2. Update on Historic Preservation Specialist recruitment The Historic Preservation Specialist position is still open. There have been two prospective applicants – one accepted a position elsewhere and the other declined the position due to timing, but the Planning Division is hoping to renegotiate to see if now works better for the applicant to transition into a new position. 3. Viability of continued Board and what is needed to strengthen the Board The board discusses promoting membership opportunities and the fact that there are no formal actions required to invite members to apply. 4. Board questions and general discussion 5. Demolition Updates  Proposals for removal of a home near Grand Ave. - the historic inventory sheet states that this structure has lost its historical integrity through a series of remodels.  There are other applications for a property on S. Church and a property on S. Black that are deemed historically significant. The Planning Division is requesting data to make the argument for removal.  A poor quality or incomplete application will prevent a demolition from taking place. Another tool to prevent demolition is a two year stay to provide more time to determine whether a demolition should or should not take place.  Planning Division has been working with MSU Architecture School to work on key basic data collection to work toward updating the historic inventory sheets.  The board discussed the role they could play in ensuring that demolitions take place after thorough due diligence by the applicant in order to prevent unnecessary demolitions of historic structures.
