The Commission of The City of BozemAn met in regular session in the Commi.ssion Room,
Cit7T Hall Bui1din,lZ, Friday evening, January 7th, 1944, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. 1'hose being-
present were Mayor Landoe, Commissioner Healy, Commissioner Lowe, City Attorney Aitken,
City Manap'er Quinnell, Director of l"inance Walter Davis, City Engineer Thorpe and the
Clerk, when the followinp: proceedino-s were had to-wl.t:
The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner
Lowe, secon5ed by Commissioner Healy that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion
was carried by the followinp: Aye and No vote; those votin~ Aye being Commissioner Healy,
Mayor Landoe and Commissioner Lowe; those votinn- No, none.
Mr. Martin Toohey was present and stated he had come to listen.
Police -- Request for Enforcement of Traffic Ordinance
Mr. Geo. Schraeder appeared before the Commission and stated he wanted to speak on
the behalf of Mr. Al Haas; that he felt he was performinr; his duty and should not have
been suspended from the Police Department.
Mr. Schraeder stated further he felt the Police Department should function in a
safety manner; that there is too much 1ay-walkinR, double parking and other infractions
of the traffic ordinance; that the ordinance was not being enforced as strictly as it
l'lhO'l11d be, and if it is necessarv to emplo;T more men to arres t the viola tors, then this
should be done.
Mr. Schraeder was informed tha t the henrlng on the suspens ion of Mr. Al Haas was
adjourned until Monda;T, .Tanuary 10th, 1944, and that the Commission is glad to p'et the
opinions of ci tizens on Auch ma tters.
Claims for the Month
Claims Nos. 5751 to 5891 inclusive were presented on the various funds as follows:

The Manarrer stated he has audi ted these claims and finds them to be trlJe and lawful
claims a::rainst The City of Bozeman, and recommends that warrants be drawn for their
payment. After examination of the claims in detail by members of the Commh~"'ion, it
was moved by Commissioner Healv, seconded by Commissioner Lowe that the claims be al-
lowed and warrants drawn for their payment and the mntinn was csrried by the following

Bonds
The bond of Rachel ~lrcotte as Steno~rapher and ASRistant Water Collector in the
amount of $2,000.00 and the bond of Walter Davis, as Director of Finance in the amount
of ~20,OOO.00 were presented. The bonds were approved as to fo~ b~T the City Attorney
whereupon, it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Lowe th8t the
bonds be accepted and approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No
vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Landoe, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy;
those voting No, none.
Airport
A cn~lnication from the Airport Board with recommendations for certain chanRes
in the Resol"tion stating the City's willingness to sell one-half interest in Galle.tin
Field to Galla tin County, and askinp' tha t the Ci ty adopt the said resolution as amended
was read and discussed by the City Commission.
After disclJ8sion, the City Commission stated they had no ob,;ection to makinp,: the
chanp:es sUP'p:es ted by the Airport Boa rd, but it was sugges ted that the Resolu tion should
be slJbmi ttedto the County Commissioners for their consideration and recommendations

before its adoption by the City Commission, So that the resolution as finally passed will
be satisfactory to all parties concerned.
Request for use of Comrrnmi t~r Room.
A request from D. S. Williams for the Community Room at the Armory as headquarters
for the Red Cross was presented and read.
The Manager s ta ted this room was now beinp; used by troops of the Girl and Boy Scou ts
and explained that it could not be reserved for the exclusive use of any one ~roup unless
under lease. The reque s t was caret'\) lly considered b;T the Commis sion, and it was decided
thqt as the Red Cross is a county-wide organization and it activities were not confined
to the C1 ty of Boz eman, space mip:ht be made B,raileble in the usa Recrea tion Room on
Main Street or in the Court House Bulldinrr.

There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was
moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Lowe that the meeting ad.iourn and
the motion was carried by the followinp' Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Me yor
Landoe, Commis sioner Healy and Commis Rioner Lowe; those vo ting No, none.
