Licenses Service Stations Approximately fifteen service station operstors appeared before the Commission stating tha t due to war condi tions their bu.sinesses had been seriously affected by the curtailmen t of sales, shortened hours, scari ty of help and trla t consequently they would like to have the basic service station charge for city licenses reduced to the charge made for other retail establishments in the city doing a comparable amount of busines~,. The operators were informed that the license rates were based as nerely as possible on the amount of fire, police, and health inspection required for the business; that when the present ordinance was enacted in 1933, it was evidently the opinion of the City Adminis tra tion tha t service s ta tions reolJired more fire inspec tion and police protec tion than other businesses. Those present contended that their service stations required no more police protection than other btl.siness places and that actually their fire insurance rates were lower than for many other businesses. After further discussion, it was decided to consult with the he,'-lds of the Police and Fire Departments as to the amount of inspection a neT protection needed for the service stations and have these heads present to meet with the dealers at the next regular meeting of the City Co~mission. 1,.'<<1 ,~ ," I .'
