Operators of service stations who appeared before the Commission at its last meeting were again present to discuss matters connected wi th their applica tion for reduction of licenses, as were also the heads of the t'ire and Police Departments . Fire Chief McCrosson I stated that service stations did not require any more inspection servi~e than did other businesses but that it is harder to fight and control a service station fire than it is to fight a fire where gasoline and oils are not present. Police Chief Embry stated that ou tlying service s ta tions required more police attention a t night than stores and "I I 1 1:: 1\') businesses on Main Street, but no more attention perhaps than other outlying business establishements. The Commission felt that from tho evidence presented it was apparent an adjustment of the basic charge for service stations should be granted, but that no such adjustment COl.lld be made effec ting this year's license, as the license ordinance would firs t have to be amended which would take a matter of months and licenses for the current year were now being collected. It was finally determined thA t all business licenses for the current year should be paid in accordance with the provisions of the pre~ent ordinance. and that steps be taken to revise and readjust ,the basic rates to make them more equitable for future years.
