HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-05-21 .........1 < I I 27 Bozeman, Montana May 2ls t, 1943 The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Friday evening, May 21st, 1943, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Those being present were Mayor Busch, Comm.issionerSorenson, Commissioner Landoe, City Attorney Aitken, City Manager Quinnell, City Engineer Thorpe and the Clerk, when the following proceedings were had to-wit: The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Landoe that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson, and Commissioner Landoe; those voting No, none. Report The report of the Health Officer for the month of April, 1943, was presented and read. It was moved by Commissioner Landoe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the report be accepted and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Landoe and Commissioner Sorenson; those voting No, none. Application for City License The application of Kilbride's Texaco Service Station for a City License was presented and read. It was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Landoe that the application be approved and the license issued and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson and Commismoner Landoe; those voting No, none. Bids for Garbage Disposal The Manager stated this was the time and place set for the opening of bids for the collection of barbage in the residential section for the period of July 1, 1943 to June 30th, 1944. He presented and read the affidavit of publication of the Notice to Bidders, whereupon, it was moved by Commissioner Landoe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the bids be opened and read and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vo te; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commi~sioner Sorenson and Commismoner Landoe; those voting No, none. The bid of ~llian S. Miles, being the only bid presented, was opened and found to be as follows: For Garbage Collection from the City's residential section for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 1944, -- $10,145.00. The bid beIng for the same monthly amount as that being paid under the present contract, it was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Landoe thAt the bid of J. S-..Mi1es be accepted and thP t a new contract be entered into in accordance therewi th and the motion was carried by the following 4ye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor BuSCh, Commissioner ~orenson and Commissioner Landoe; those voting No, none. Agreement USGS -- Surface Water Investigation The renewal of the Co-operative Agreement between the United States Geological Survey and The City of Bozeman for the surface water investigation of the East Gallatin River during the coming year was presented and read. It was moved by Commissioner Landoe, seconded by Commiss!. oner Sorenson that the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign the Agreement for The City of Bozeman and the motion was 28 carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Landoe; those voting No, none. Extension of Northwest Airlines A communication from the Northwest Airlines requesting the City's endorsement for an extension of the Northwest Airline Company's service from Seattle to Nome, Alaska, and after the war, to the Far East, was presented and read. The Commission expressed approval of the route and a resolution urging Montana's Congressmen to support the proposed extension was presented and read. It was moved by Commissioner Landoe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the Resolution be passed and adopted and set out in the minutes, and copies be sent to the Montana Congressmen and that an additional copy be sent to the Northwest Airlines and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Landoe; tt,ose voting No, none. "WHEREAS: It has been brought to the attention of this Commission that Northwest Air11nes Inc. have applied to the Civil Aeronautics Authori ty for permission to extend their lines from Seattle to Anchorage, Alaska, and eventually to the Far East; and WHEREAS: There is no commerc is 1 air s ervic eat the presen t time be tween Seattle and Anchorage nor has any certificate so far been granted for such service, and we believe an All-American commercial route that could be flown between the above points would not only be a great convenience, but that such a flight is necessary for the promotion of better business throughout the territory now being served by this Company. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA: I Section 1. That we urge our Congressional leaders to assist in securing this service extension for Northwest Airlines; believing that such an ex- tension will be of direct benefit to many Montana communities. Section 2. That a copy of this Resolution be sent to each of our Senators and Congressmen." I Defective Curb -- SID Nos. 333 & 335 A communication from the Standard Construction Company, contractors for the con" struction of Special Improvement Districts Nos. 333 and 335 was read, stating it was the intention of the Company to repair the defective curb in these districts just as soon as the right men are avail bIe to do the patching, and that they will do all they are expected to do. The ma tter was discussed and the Ci ty Attorney was instructed to inform the Standard Construction Company the City wo"ld expect the work to be done this summer. Airport -- Ceiling Light The Manager stated the U. S. Department of Commerce had presented an application fovm for the installation of a ceiling light at the Airport for safety purposes and as an aid to aviation. After discussion, it was moved by Commissioner Landoe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the application be approved, upon its completion, subject to the approval of the Airport Board, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Landee; those I vo ting No, none. Nursery School TheD'ianager stated that funds had been approved for the continuation of the OJ Nursery S hool, but that the Sponsor would have to put up 50% of the funds for the ,.. opera tlon; that the School Distric t had brought up some additional expenses and felt I I I tha t all money shou ld be on hand before the offer is accepted by the Sponsor; and that another meeting will soon be held with school authorities to take final action on the project. Water Works Convention City Manager Quinnell reported on the Water Works Convention at Billings which he attended with Wat.r Superintendent Border, Saturday May 15th. Adjournment There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by Commissioner Landoe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the meeting adjourn and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor BUSCh, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Landoe; those voting No, none.
