June 4th, 1943
The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session ih the Commission Room,
City Hall Building, Friday evening, June 4th, 1943, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Those being
present were Mayor Busch, Commissioner Landoe, Commissioner Sorenson, City Manager
Quinnell, Director of Finance Walter Davis, City Engineer Thorpe and the Clerk, when
the following proceedings were had to-wit:
The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner
Sorenson, seconded by Commission~r Landoe that the minutes be approved as read and the
motion was carried by ~le following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor BuSCh,
Commissioner Landoe and Commissioner Sorenson; those voting No, none.
ClaIm.s for the Month
Claims Nos. 4662 to 4805 inclusive were presented on the various funds as follows:

The Manager stated that he has audited these claims and finds them to be true and
lawful claims agaInst The City of Bozeman and recommends that warrants be drawn for their
payment. After examination of the claims in detail by the City CommiSSion, it was moved
by Commissioner Landoe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the claims be allowed and
warrants be drawn for their payment and the motion was carried by the following Aye and
No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson and vommissioner
Landoe; those voting No, none.
Applicatiors for City License
The~ollowing applications for City Licenses were presented and read:

It was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Landoe that the

lowing Aye and No vote; those voting Aye be:1.ng Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson and
Commissioner Landoe; those voting No, none.

The application of Elsie's Beauty Shoppe for a City License was presented and read.
'The fee submitted with the application was paid "Under Protest". It was moved by Com-
missioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Landoe that the application be approved
and the license issued subject to the approval of the applioation by the City Attorney
and the motion was carried by the following hye and No vote; those voting Aye being
Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Landoe; those voting No, none.
The application of G. R. Porter for a lioense to sharpen tools at 813 South Fifth
was presented and read. The Manager reported that this location was in the ttBtt Resi-
dence District, and the Zoning Ordinanoe does not permit business in this District.
After discussion, it was moved by Commissioner Sorenson seconded by Commissioner Landoe

that the application be denied and the money submitted with the application refunded
and the motion was carried by the fbllowing Ay e and No vote; those voting Aye being
Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Landoe; those voting No, none.
A communication from Charles Nunnelly who operates the tourist camp known at Glen
Motel at 310 North Seventh, was presented and read. Mr. Nunnelly stated that he rents
his cabins by the month to local residents and does not rent them by the day to tourists
as in the past, and that his business should therefore be classed as other apartments
are classified. He felt that under these circumstances he should not be reqlJired to
pay the city license fee. The communication was ordered filed and the Commission stated
that Mr. Nunnelly's explanation was satisfactory.

It was moved by Commissioner Landoe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the re-
ports be accepted and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and
No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner
Landoe; those voting No, none.
Recrea tion
The Manager reported that the personnel had been selected for the City's recreation
and swimming instructor
program for the summer. He also stated that applic3tion for financial aid for a 1ifeguard/
at the simmming pool had been made to the local Red Cross Chapter.
Nursery School
The Manager reported that the School Board of District No.7, had turned down the
offer submitted by federal authorities to allocate Lanham Act funds for 50% of the cost
of opera tj.ng the Bozeman Nursery School during the coming months, because it was feared
that dangerous hazards existed in connection with the operatiDn of the project which
could not be covered by insurance.
Mr. Quinnell stated he had written penator Murray thanking him for his assistance,
and steps would be taken immediatJiy to get a new project started.
