HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-06-11 34 Bozeman, Montana June 11 th, 1943 The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission' Room, City Hall Building, Friday evening, June 11th, 1943, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Those being present were Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson, Commissioner Landoe, City Attorney Aitken, City Manager Quinnell, City Engineer Thorpe, Director of Finance Walter Davis and the Clerk, when the following proceedings were had to-wit: The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Landoe that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Landoe and Commissioner Sorenson; those voting No, none. Applications for City Licenses The following applications for City Licenses were presented and read: Frank Bonn Dave Douma A. C. Durand Shamrock Rooms J. S. Miles City Taxi Service It was moved by Commissioner Landoe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the applications be approved and the licenses issued and the motion was carried by the fol- lowing Aye and N~ vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Landoe and Com- missioner Sorenson; those voting No, none. Resolution No. 526 -. Snow Assessment The Manager stated that a resolution levying an assessment in the amount of $382.45, for snow removal for the year 1942-1943 had been prepared. He presented and read Resolu- tion No. 526, entitled: A RESOLUTION OF TIill COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN LEVYING AND ASSESSING A SPECIAL ASSESSMENT OF TAXES UPON CERTAIN PROPERTIES IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, COUNTY OF GALLATIN, STATE OF MONTANA, TO DEFRAY Tlffi COST OF REMOVAL OF SNOW FOR THE YEAR 1942-1943 PURSUANT TO PROVISIONS OF ORDINANCE NO. 502, ENTITLED: "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE REMOVAL OF SNOW FROM THE SIDEWALKS IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 385, ENTITLED: 'AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE REMOVAL OF SNOW AND ICE, DIRT, FILTH AND OTHER OBSTRUCTION FROM SIDE- WALKS ON MAIN STREET BET\'VEEN WALIACE AVENUE AND FOURTH AVENUE IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN'''. It was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Landoe that the Resolution be provisionally passed as of this date and that June 18th, 1943, be set as the date for hearing protests and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Landoe; those voting No, none. Resolution No. 527 -- Sprinkling Assessment Resolution No. 527 levying an assessment in the amount of $1,998.25 for street sprinkling in the various sprinkling districts for the year 1943 was presented and read, anti tIed: A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN LEVYING AND ASSESSING A SPECIAL ASSESSMENT OF TAXES UPON ALL THE PROPERTY IN STREET SPRINKOING DISTRICTS OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, COUNTY OF GALLATIN, STATE OF MONTANA, TO DEFRAY SEVENTY-FIVE PERCENT OF THE COST OF SPRINKLING STREETS WITHIN SAID STREET SPRINKLING DISTRICTS OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN FOR THE YEAR 1943. It was moved by Commissioner Landoe, seconded by Commissioner Sorenson that the Resolution be provisionally passed and tht June 18th, 1943 be set as the date for hearing protests and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Landoe and Commissioner Sorenson; those voting No, none. I I I I I I :t1 Resolution No. 528 -~ Parking Maintenance Assessments The Manager stated the resolution levying an assessment in the amount of $3,276.96, for maintenance of parkings in the various parking maintenance districts for the year 1943 had been prepared. He presented and read Resolution No. 528, entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN LEVYING AND ASSESSING A SPECIAL ASSESSMENT OF TAXES UPON ALL TEE PROPERTY IN SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICTS OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, COUNTY OF GALLATIN, STATE OF MONTANA, FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF PARKINGS TO DEFRAY THE COST OF MAINTAINING THE PARKINGS WITHIN SAID SPECIAL IMPROVEMENTS DISTRICTS OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN FOR THE YEAR 1943. It was moved by Commissioner Sorenson, seconded by Commissioner Landoe that the reso. lution be provisionally passed and that June 18th, 1943 be set as the date for hearing pro~ tests and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Busch, Commissioner Sorenson and Commissioner Landoe; those voting No, none. Cemetery -- Pmts for Lot. -- Mrs. Edith Bryant Mrs. Edith Bryant, who is purchasing Lot No.6; Block 7; Catholic Division in the Sunset Hills Cemetery on the payment plan, appeared before the Commission claiming that she had made certain payments in connection with the purchasing of this lot for which she had not been given proper credit. Mrs. Bryant presented the following receipts for the consideration of the Commission: One Deed Receipt #2675, for $15.00. one Permanent Care Recei~t #281 for $50.00; and One Interment Permit #121 for '10.00, making a total of ~75.00 which comple- ted the transaction for Lot 7, including the burial charge. Mrs. Bryant also presented a memo receipt for $16.25, marked first payment on Lot 6; Block 7; O. D. All of the above receipts were dated October 29, 1936. Three memo receipts ond one Sundry Receipt, issued at a later date represent further payments on said Lot 6, and check with the City's records. However, Mrs. Bryant also presented a memo receipt in the amount of $35.00, which she contends represents an additional payment made by her on said Lot 6, On October 29, 1936, but which the City claims was, no doubt, issued to cover a deposit made by Mrs. Bryant for the $75.00 payment for Lot 7, for which official receipts were issued as stated above. It was explained that Mrs. Bryant had previously talked to City Officials about these receipts and that Mrs. Bryant's daughter had appeared before the Commission in February, 1939 in connection with the same matter, but no official action was taken. Mrs. Bryant stated that Mrs. Norton, who was with her at the time she purchased the lot, would be in town Saturday evening and that she could verify the payments made. It was agreed that a mEEting of Mrs. Bryant, Mrs. Norton and City Officials be made Saturday even- ing to discuss the matter with a view to getting it straightened out. Recrea tion The Manager reported that the Gallatin Chapter of the American Red Cross had employed a lifeguard and swimming instructor to be on hand at the swimming pool this summer.
