The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
Building, Wednesday afternoon, January 24, 1951 at 1:00 o'clock F. M. Those being ~resent were Mayor
Lowe I Commissioner Secor, Commissioner Healy, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the
Clerk when the following proceedings were had:
The minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded
by Com."'llissioner Secor, that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following
Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor and Commissioner Healy; those
voting No, none.
Permission to Log on City Land
A request from the Idaho Pole Company to cut logs on approximately 80 acres of a section owned by
the City of Bozeman on the south water shed was considered. The section of land is located on the
ridge between Bozeman Creek and Middle Creek, and the 80 acres lies on the Middle Creek side of the
slope of the ridge.
After discussion, it was moved by Commissioner Secor, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that permis-
sion be granted to cut logs on this part of the section, under the supervision and aFproval of the
Forest Service, and the rate charged be the Same as the current rate now being paid the Forest Service,
and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being; Mayor Lowe,
Commissioner Secor and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
Vacation of' Street & Alley in The Violett Addition
The matter of the vacation of a portion of Short Stroet and certain alleys in The Violett Addition
as requested by School District No.7 in a petition presented to the City Commfssion on January 3rd,
1951 was discussed. It was rerorted that the School District is unable to acquire additional land at
this time, and it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Secor that the City
Attorney be instructed to prerare the Resolution of Intention to vacate the street and alleys as
requested, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those vo ting Aye being Mayor
Lowe I Commissioner Secor and Comrnissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
Increase in Cemetery Rates
The Manager reported that the Sunset Hills Cemetery Board has recommended an increase in the fee
for lots to be increased from $70.00 to $75.00, and the fee for Interment Permits be increased as
follows:
Regular Size from $15.00 to $20.00
Vault Size
from $25.00 to $30.00.
The increase in the cost to be effective as of February 1st. 1951. It Was moved by Conunissioner
Healy, seconded by Commissioner Secor, that the action of the Cemetery Board be approved and the
motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner
Secor and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
Purchase of Water in Middle Creek Asa'n
The Stock Subscription Agreement, and the Water Purchase Contract for the acquiring; of 1050 acre-
feet of water in the Middle Creek Dam were presented and considered.
The City Attorney was instructed to discuss points in question with the Water Conservation Board
of Helena.
Library Association Meeting
The City Manager announced the Montana Library Association will hold their annual meeting in
Bozeman during May, 1951.

Street LightinG Contract

Additional Street Lights on South 8th
The Manager stated that the ornamental demonstration 15g1!ts have been removed from South ltigh th
Avenue and that, at two intersections on Eighth Avenue, there are no street lights. It was moved by

order with the Monta.na Power -':ompany for street lights at the intersections of Eighth Avenue and
Dickerson Street and Eighth Avenue and Alderson Street, and the motion was card ed by the following
Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner SeCor and Commissioner Healy; these
voting No, none.
Manager & Attorney to Helena
The me.tter of a Volunteer Fire Department in cities of the first class, and legislative problems
were discussed by the Commission. It was moved by CO!11lTlissioner Secor, seconced by Commissioner Healy,
that it being in the publ ic interest, the City Manager and the City Attorrley be authorized to go to
Helena in the interest of legislation concerning this and other local mur.icipal matters, and the motion
wes carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor
and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
Absence of Shadoan
Attention of the City Gommission was called to the fact thet L. G. Shadoan, Clerk of the Commission,
was absent from his regular duties from December 29th, 1950 through Je.:nuary 6th, 1951, due to his
fether's illness, and that during this time it was not necessary to hire an employee durine:; his ebsencel

and it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Secor, that this time off not be
clwrged as vacetion or sick leave, and that no deduction be made from his salary, and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor and
Corrunissi oner Heal y; those voting No, none.
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, i.t was moved by
Commissioner Secor, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was carr) ed
