HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-03-21 Bozeman, Montana March 21, 1951 495 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday afternoon, March 21, 1951 at l:OO o'clock P. M. Those being present were Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor, Commissioner Healy, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk when the following proceedings were hadz 1 The minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Secor, that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No votez those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. Assistance for Civilian Defense Program Mr. Richards of the Ray-o-vac Company appeared before the Commission to explain products being developed by his organization which they consider vital to civilian defense and which will help the civilian defense program progress. He also offered his services and the services of his company in the development of a local prog;ram. Health Officer Fresented Dr. Carl W. Hammer, recently appointed City-County Health Officer, was present and was introduced to the City Commission. Health problemB were discussed. Resolution No. 705 -- Decontrol of Rent The Manager stated the City Attorney, as instructed, has prepared a resolution calling a public hearing on the decontrolling of rents in Bozeman to be held on April 3, 1951. He presented Resolution No. 705, entitled: I A RESOLUTION CALLING A PUBLIC HEARING IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA, AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THERE NO LONGER EXISTS SUCH A SHORTAGE IN THE RENTAL HOUSING ACCOMM:ODATIONS AS TO REQUIRE RENT CONTROL IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN. It was moved by Commissioner Secor, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the resolution be passed and adopted and the notice be published by a display ad in three issues of the Bozeman Chronicle, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. Resolution No. 704 -- Intention to Vacate Fortion of North Sixth Avenue The Manager stated the City Attorney, as instructed, has prepared a resolution declaring it to be the intention of the Ci~ Commission to vacate a portion of North Sixth Avenue extending approximately 144 feet north of the north line of Durston Road. He presented Resolution No. 704, entitledz A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA, DECLARING IT TO BE THE INTEN- TION OF SAID COMMISSION TO VACATE THAT PORTION OF SIXTH AVENUE NORTH EXTENDING AFPROXlMATELY l44 FEET NORTH FROM DURSTON ROAD AND BEING ALL THAT I'ORTION OF SIXTH AVENUE NORTH INCLUDED IN SHONKWILER'S ADDITION TO BOZEMAN, MONTANA. It was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Secor, that the Resolution be passed and adopted and March 28th, 1951 be set as the date for public hearing, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. 1 Proposed Punch Board Ordinance The City Manager reviewed the meeting of the Executive Committee Meeting held in Bozeman, March l7, 1951, and legislative matters affecting cities and towns which were passed by the recent legislature were discussed. The City Attorney was instructed to obtain the necessary data on which to prepare an ordinance for a ~ tax on punch boards. Sewer Charge -- 102 South Willson A communication from the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the First Presbyterian Church, 102 South Willson, was read stating that during the month of December, 1950, the water bill at this address 496 was $l4.65, due to a leak in the service. The communication stated this leak was repaired, and asked that this particular month be eliminated in determining the average usage for sewer charge. It was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Secor, that the request for the elimination of the water bill for December, 1950 in determining the sewer charge be approved and the motion Was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being M~or Lowe, Commissioner Secor and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. Froposed Flatting of Land by Durston Realty Co. A proposed platting of land owned by the Durston Realty Company north of Durston Road was dis- cussed. It was decided that such a plat should confo~ to the law as to dedication of certain of the platted area for park purposes, and that no agreement for obtaining land for park purposes at a later platting should be entered into. Adjournment There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it WaS moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Secor. that the meeting adjourn and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. 1 Attest; ~~ion I 1
