HomeMy WebLinkAbout1949-08-10 ~~82 Bozeman, Montana August 10, 1949 'Ihe Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room. City Hall Building, Wednesday afternoon, August lOth. 1949 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Those being present were Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Healy, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk, when the following proceedings were had: The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Healy, I seconded by Commissioner Lowe. that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. Offer of Block 20 N. R. of West Side Addition The offer of Verne Ballantyne to give Block 20 of Normandy Rearrangement West Side Addition to the City of Bozeman for park purposes was given further consideration at this time. Mr. Ballantyne was present as were also ten residents of the district near this park. This delegation urged acceptance of Mr. Ballantyne's offer on the grounds that the growth of the City would certainly make a park in this area a definite need in the future. City Manager Henderson stated that if the City accepted Mr. Ballantyne's offer it would be required to pay $660.07 of delinquent taxes and special assessments and approximately $410.00 of taxes and assessments due this fall. This would leave a balance of $1,807.97 in Special Improvement District taxes outstanding against the said block which would have to be paid at future dates. The situation as to status of park funds was explained to those present and they were informed that the Commission desired to take one more week before arriving at a decision on the proposal. Application for Slot Machine License I The application of the Legion Club for license for two additional slot machines was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the application be approved and the licenses issued and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy; those voting No. none. Appointment of Judges and Clerk f'or Frim9.ry and General Election The City Commission announced the appointment of the following Judges and Clerks for the Primary Eleotion to be held August 30th, 1949 and the General Eleotion to be held November 8th, 1949: Preoinot #1 Frecinct #2 Frecinct #3 Frecinct #4 Ida B. Reports The f'ollowing reports were presented: The monthly report of the Chief of folioe. It was moved by Commissioner Healy, seoonded by Commissioner Lowe, that the reports be accepted and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson. Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy, those voting No, none. ~283 Fublic Hearing -- Appropriation Ordinance No. 751 The Manager stated that this is the time and place set for public hearing on the annual appropria- tion ordinance for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 1950. He presented the affidavit of publication of the Notice of fublic Hearing. and stated that no one was present to protest and no protests have been filed. It was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the ordinance be published as provided by law and that August 24th, 1949 be set as the date for the final passage and I the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy, those voting No, none. Deed for Street Purposes f'rom State of Montana The Manager presented a deed from the State of Montana to The City of Bozeman for a triangular strip of ground in Block 8. Capitol Hill Addition to be used f'or street purposes in the conneotion with the widening and improvement of College Street from Eighth Avenue to Eleventh Avenue in the City. Request for Driveway -- Montana Elevator Company A written request was presented from the Montana Elevator Company asking permission to remove curb for a driveway at their elevator property at 712 East Mendenhall and f'or use of an area partially located in the street for loading purposes. After discussion. it was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the request be granted subject to the following conditions: That any damage done to the street or other city property be repaired. That the driveway be so constructed as to take care of' the proper drainage of the driveway and street, That should the driveway be discontinued, the curb will be replaced in its original condition, That the Montana Elevator Company will assume any and all liability for damage caused by the removal of the curb and installation of the driveway. and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson. I Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy, those voting No, none. froposal to Change Name of Buttonwood Avenue The City Manager stated that Mr. H. H. Dokken has suggested that the name of' Buttonwood Avenue from Main Street to the Cemetery gate be changed to Langohr Drive. The matter was taken under advise- ment. Adj ournmen t There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Healy and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.
