HomeMy WebLinkAbout1949-11-09 323 Bozeman, Montana November 9, 1949 The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in the COlillnission Room, City Hall Building;, Wednesday afternoon, November 9th, 1949 at 1:00 o'clock f. M. Those being rresent were Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Healy, City ManaGer Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk, when the followinc proceedings were had: I The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy, those voting No, none. Resolution No. 666 -- Creating S. I. D. 359 The Manager stated that the City Attorney as instructed has rrepared the resolution creating; Special Improvement District No. 359, sanitary sewer on North Black Avenue from Tamarack to Cottonwood Street. He presented Resolution No. 666, entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CrTY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN CREATING A SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT TO BE KNOWN AS SPECIAL IrviPROVBjMENT DISTRICT NUMBER 359 OF' THE CITY OF' BOZB..1VIAN FOR THE i'URIOSE OF' CONSTRUCTING .AND INSTALLING A SANITARY SEWER ON NORTH BLACK AVENUE BETWEEN COTTONWOOD .AND TAMARACK STREETS IN SAID CITY. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the resolution be passed and adopted and November 30th, 1949 be set as the date for the opening of bids, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy, those votinc No, none. Lease of Portion of City Dump Ground I The Manager reported that the City Attorney has prepared a lease between The City of Bozeman and Luke Brown leasing to Mr. Brown approximately 25 acres of the City Dump Grounds lying north and east of the East Gallatin River. The lease was approved as to form by the City Attorney, whereupon, it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the Mayor and the Clerk of the City Commission be authorized to sign the lease for the City of Bozeman, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy, those voting No, none. Reports The following reports for the month of October, 1949 were presented: Sanitary Inspector Building Inspector Recreation Director Water Collector It was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the reports be accel' ted and ordered filed and the !notion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Corrrrniss ioner Lowe and Corruniss ioner Healy, those votine: No, none. Extension of Time to Make Sewer Connection The Manager presented a written request from Mrs. Margaret Jones asking for an extension of time to connect the cabin in the rear of her property at 418 North Wallace to the sanitary sewer. She stated I that the occupant. who is a G. 1. Student at the College, will move to tbe hOUSinG units on the college campus at the beginning of the winter quarter. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the request for an extension of time until January 1, 1950 be granted, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye beinG Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy, those voting; No. none. Request to make Garfield an Arterial Street A written communication from Miss Bertha Clow requesting that Garfield Street be made an arterial street was Fresented and read. The Manager stated that the recommendations had been asked from the 324 Chief of Folice together with a report of accident.s on this street, and that the matter will be given further consideratior, when the traffic ordinance is revised. Applications for City Licenses The followInG applications for City Licenses were presented: Jim's Hat Shop Henke's Oval E"Service It was moved by Conunissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the ap }'lications be approved and the licenses issued and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: tho se I votinG Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy, those voting No, none. Lighting Demonstration on West Main The Manager stated that the Montana Fower Company has installed ornamental lights on West Main Street from Fourth Avenue to Eighth Avenue for demonstration purposes, and ask the Commission to look it over. Ambulance Service for the City Mr. Leon Johnson, Emil Dahl, Fred Skoog and Wayne Babcock, a committee from the Elk's Lodge were present and suggested a proposition whereby their organization would furnish a new ambulance to be operated by the City Taxi if the City of Bozeman and the County of Gallatin would pay a part of the operating cost. After discussion and consideration, the Commission stated the City of Bozeman would favor such a plan wi thin their legal and financial limits. Canvass of General Election L. G. Shadoan, Clerk of the City Commission, presented his canvass of the results of the General City Election held on November 8th, 1949. ilis canvass showed the vote to be as follows: Walter A. Secor 410 votes Chas. W. Sorenson 371 votes I. The Clerk further.informed the Commission that question has been raised as to the eligibility of Mr. Secor as a candidate for the office of City Commissioner. The Clerk was instructed to present the question to the City Attorney for a leEal opinion before he issues a certificate of election to Mr. Secor. Water Line to Service Baseball lark The Maneger stated that Dr. R. A. Williams has requested that the city's water main be extended from Buttonwood Avenue east Lo his property north of Curtiss Street and east of CYr:ress Avenue, where he is constructing a baseball park. The Manager was authorized to inform Mr. Williams that this water main could be extended by city crew to be paid for at cost by Dr. Williams. Adjournment There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by Commis- sioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the meeting adjourn and the Inotion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those votint; Aye being Mayor Sorenson.
