The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, Cit,y Hall
Building, Wednesday a~ternoon, April 6th, 1949 at 1~00 o'clook P. M. Those being present were Mayor
Sorenson, Commissioner Healy, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelaoe and the Clerk, When the

I The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commdssioner Healy, seconded
by llayor Sorenson that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was oarried by the followin15 Aye
and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
Claims for the Month
Claims Nos. 5358 to 5677 were presented on the various fUnds as follows:

The Manager stated that he has audited these claims and finds them to be true and lawful claims
against The City of Bozeman, and recommends that warrants be drawn ~or their payment. After examination
I of the claims in detail by the City Commission, it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Mayor
. Sorenson that the claims be approved and warrants drawn ~or their payment and the motion was carried by

Cashing SDS Construction Bonds
The Manager stated that, in order to pay accrued claims against the Sewage Disposal System Construo-
tion Fund, it will be necessary to cash certain U. S. Treasury Certifioates of Indebtedness, held as
investments in this fund. It was moved ~ CommiSSioner Healy, seoonded by Mayor Sorenson that the
Director of Finance be authorized to sell $100,000.00 of investments held in the Sewage Disposal System
Construction Fund, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being
Mayor Sorenson and CommiSSioner Healy; those voting No, none.
Reports
The following reports for the month of March, 1949 were presented:

It was moved by Commissioner Healy, seoonded by Mayor Sorenson that the reports be accepted and

Delegate to Library Meeting
The Manager stated that the Montana State Librar,y Assooiation will meet in Billings, May 1, 2, and
3, 1949. It was moved qy Commissioner Healy, seconded by Mayor Sorenson, that, it being in the public
interest, Miss Myra Tioe, Librarian, be authorized to attend this meeting and her expenses be paid ~rom
the Library Fund and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote~ those voting Aye being
Mayor Sorenson and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.

Resolution Opposing Legislation to Build Electric Transmission Line8
Mr. C. J. Burns, District l4e.nager, Montana Power Company, has interviewed the City Commission
relative to a bill now under consideration before the Congress of the United States which would
appropriate funds to the Bonneville POWer Administration to build certain electric power transmission
lines in Montana. After consideration of the points involved the following resolution was presented:
WHEREAS. legislation is now under consideration by the Congress of the United States
to provide authority and funds to the Bonneville POWer Administration to build I
electric transmission lines in the State of Montana, and
.WHEREAS, it appears that construction of the proposed transmission lines will parallel
adequate transmission lines now in existence. and
WHEREAS, the construotion of such proposed transmission lines is in direct competition
with private enterprise. and
WHEREAS, it is deemed that construotion of the proposed power transmission lines would
be detrimental to the best interests of the State of Montana.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Commission of the City of Bozeman, that:
1. The proposed construction of power transmission lines by the
Bonneville Fower Authority be opposed and resisted by all possible
means.
2. Copies of this Resolution be sent to each of the Representatives
in Congress from the State of Montana and to members of the Senate
and House Committees for the Interior Department Appropriations.
Approved and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Commission of the City of Bozeman,
Montana. this 6th day of April. 1949.

Bids for S. I. D. 349
The matter of re-advertising for bids for S. I. D. 349, street improvements on West College from
Fourth Avenue to 8th Avenue was disoussed. It was moved by Commissioner Healy. secoI1ded by Mayor
Sorenson that the Clerk of the Commission be authorized to re-advertise for bids to be opened April
20th, 1949 for Special Improvement District No. 349 and the motion was carried by the following Aye
and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
froposal of Gallatin Fa~ Bureau for use of McCay house
Larry Wilson and Jake Tiedema. representing the Gallatin County Far.m Bureau. and Hague Callister,
representing the Bozeman Chamber of Commerce, appeared before the Commission to present a written
proposal for the use of the house at 115 So. Black Ave. This is known as the "McCay" house and is
situated on the property now held by the City under lease, with option to buy, from K. J. Stimson.
It was proposed that this house be turned over to the Gallatin County Farm Bureau on a lease
basis, rent free. The Farm Bureau would establish public rest rooms in the building, locate their
county and state offioes in it, maintain a free package cheoking service and, if possible, a nursery. I
Rooms unused for these purposes might be rented as offices for other organizations. The Farm Bureau
would make all necessary alterations to the building and would assume all responsibility for its
operation and maintenance.
The proposal was taken under advisement, the gentlemen presenting it were informed that all
angles of the proposition would be investigated and considered an~ if possible, a definite answer
would be given to them at the next regular meeting of the Commission.

Report on Recreation Meetins
Mr. Art Bland, Recreational Director, reported on the meeting of the Northwest Division of the
National Recreation Association conference which he attended in Missoula, Montana.
Application for Ci~ Licenses
The following applications for City Licenses were presented:

It was moved by Commissioner Healy. seconded ~ Mayor Sorenson, that the applications be approved
and the licenses issued and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting
Aye being Mayor Sorenson and Commdssioner Healy; those voting No, none.
J?roposed Ordinance Licensing Slot Vachines
A proposed Ordinance licensing and regulating slot machines within the City was presented.
Action on the ordinance was deferred until the next regular meeting.
Request for Street Light
The Manager presented 8 request for a street light on Black Avenue north of fe8ch Street. It
was moved by Commissioner Healy. seconded by Mayor Sorenson, that the Manager investigate this and
other similar locations for proposed street lights and, if he oonsiders the installations nece5Bary
and desirable, he instruct the Montana Power Company to make the installations and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson and Commissioner
Healy; those voting No, none.
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
