HomeMy WebLinkAbout1948-07-21 144 Bozeman, Montana July 21st, 1948 The Commission of The City of Bozeman met in regular session in thaCommission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday afternoon, July 21st, 1948, at 1:00 o'clook P.M. Thos e be ing present were Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Healy, Commissioner Lowe, City Manager Henderson, Ci ty Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk, when the following proceedings were had to-wi t: The minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner I Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Healy that the m1nutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. Audit for Fiscal Year Ending June 30th, 1948 Mr..J. L. MaylanG, C. P. A., Dillon, Montana, was present to discuss his proposal to make the annual audit of the accounts of the City as required by law. He stated that he and B. A. Risley, also of Dillon, were prepared to start the audit by July 26th. Mr. Risley is a former member of the staff of the State Examiner's Offioe and, in tha t capacity had assisted in the audit of this City in a previous year. Mr. Mayland estimated that this audit can be completed in not to exceed three "man weeks" and quoted a rate of $35.00 per day for each C. P. A. for the actual time required to make the audit. It was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Lowe that Mr. Mayland and his associate be employed to make this audit in accordance with his proposal and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Healy and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Claim for Portable Pump I The claim of the Homell te Corpora tion for a portable pump in the amount of $303.85 was presented. The Manager stated this claim was subject to a 1% discount if paid by the 25th of July, and after an examination of the claim, it was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Healy that the claim be allowed and a warrant drawn for its payment and the motion wss carried by the following Aye and No vote; tho sa voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Connnissioner Healy; those voting No, none. Applioations for City Licenses The following applications for City Licenses were presented: Eddy's Bakery Frank Bonn Haggerty-Messmer Company T. W. Symmonds Leonard Johnson (4 dances); (3-day Beer License) Jr. Chamber of Commerce $-day Carnival); It was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Lowe that the applica- tions be approved and the licenses issued and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. Reports The following reports for the month ot June, 1948 were presented: I Cemetery Board City Engineer Health Otficer (Milk) It was moved by CommIssioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Healy that the reports be accepted and ordered filed and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Healy and Commissioner Lowe; tho s e voting No, none. " . 145 Quit Claim Deed to Vacated Strip on North Willson A quit claim deed to a strip of land on North Willson.. as vacated_by Ordinance No. 669, was presented. It was stated that Bertrice Myers, owner of Lots 23 & 24, Block 3, Beall's Third Addition has req~ested a quit claim deed to the vacated strip abutting he~ property. City Attorney Lovelace stated that the deed was in order, whereupon it was moved by Commis- I sloner Healy, seconded by Commlssioner Lowe that the Mayor and the Clerk be authorized to sign the deed for the City of Bozeman and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Sorenson, Commissioner Lowe and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. Resolution Approving Waiver of Removal Requirement.. MSC Housing Dr. R. R. Renne, Presidnet of Montana State College, appeared before the Commission to discuss matters pertaining to U. S. Government temporary housing on M. S.O. Campus. He stated that, under a recent act of Congress, the government now proposes to transfer title to these buildings to Montana State College. Before doing that it is necessary to secure a waiver from local authorities, and other controlling agencies, of that portion of the original agreement under which this housing was erected which requires its removal within two years after the official ending of the war emergency. Dr. Renne explained that there are at present nearly five hundred family units in this temporary housing all occupied by married students or faculty fami11es. He said that there is no desire or intent by M.S.C. to continue this as permanent housing but, that until there is other housing available in Bozeman for these families, a dSinite emergency does exist. Immediately upon ending of this I emergency it is the intention and desire of M.S.O. to remove all family housing from the campus. He presented and requested the adoption of the following resolution: RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Bozeman which has juris- diction over part of the area in which Projects V-24054, VN-24075.. and VN-2407l of Montana State College are located, that the waiver of the removal requirements of Section 313 of the Lanham Act (Public Law 849, 76th Congress, as amended) with respect to said project is hereby specifically approved in accordance with Public Law 796, 80th Congress. Improvements on College Street Improvement or reconstruction of the paving on West College Street, from Eighth Avenue to Eleventh Avenue was discussed with President Renne of Montana state College. Methods of I financing this work were considered. Mr. Renne stated that he is attending a meeting of the Ste te Board of Educa tion in Helena on July 26th, 1948, and tha t he w111 bring this matter before the Board, and will try other possibilities of securing State or Federal aid forthls project.
