The people are awesome and the entire area is an amazing place to explore and experience. My Uncle William J. Tietz relocated there in 1977 to be the president of MSU and has never looked back. I've always wanted to make Bozeman my home and in many ways it is. Our two daughters live there: one is senior at MSU and will stay after graduation and our other daughter is about to be a Math teacher at Bozeman High; she also works as a landscaper with Valley of the Flowers. We've been visiting Bozeman for years and we've done the hotel route. It doesn't compare to staying in a home when we're away from home. The homes we rent every time we visit are part of what makes this town and our time there so special. It is sooooo much more comfortable than a hotel and we are to better assimilate into the local population feeling like a local. We really enjoy this aspect and for it to be taken away would be a terrible outcome!!! 5/23/2017 9:56 AM 11 Wedding 5/23/2017 7:00 AM 12 Restaurants and bars are great too 5/23/2017 12:54 AM 13 Attend a wedding 5/22/2017 9:26 PM 14 Family vacation 5/22/2017 8:37 PM 15 -Met with a group of friends -Run to the Pub 5/22/2017 8:14 PM 16 I grew up in the area and always call it home. I do not own a home there so when we visit we love to feel at home in a rental. It also is helpful and cozy when our family of 13 can be all together in a home rather than a motel in separate rooms. 5/22/2017 6:36 PM 17 I was there in August 2016 for the Visible Evidence conference on Documentary film, a major academic conference held at various places around the world each year. Staying in a home, provides comforts of "home". 5/22/2017 4:53 PM 20 We were there for a week hosting our daughter's wedding. After all you are in someones home.5/23/2017 3:21 PM 19 Very good, friendly, encouraged us to move here, recommended places to recreate and eat etc 5/23/2017 1:06 PM 20 N/A 5/23/2017 12:24 PM 21 We have loved everywhere we have stayed in Bozeman and have never had any problems with neighbors. Most have seemed welcoming. 5/23/2017 12:22 PM 22 We had a great time and everyone was warm and welcoming 5/23/2017 12:12 PM 23 none 5/23/2017 11:38 AM 12 / 19 Vacation Rentals in Bozeman SurveyMonkey 24 Very helpful, nice people in Bozeman 5/23/2017 10:53 AM 25 Your neighborhoods are beautiful and the people are very friendly. Everyone says hello, waves and is courteous. This is something we would miss much of if we were stuck in the Marriott on 80! 5/23/2017 9:56 AM 26 We have lots of friends in Bozeman so I don't typically get to know neighbors. That said, I've never had anything but friendly encounters with neighbors over the years. 5/23/2017 8:04 AM 27 No such interaction occurred so not applicable to our experience.5/23/2017 7:00 AM 28 Very little interaction but everyone was very nice!5/23/2017 6:18 AM 29 Just hellos etc...5/23/2017 6:12 AM 30 We didn't really meet any close neighbours but people in shops and restaurants were really friendly 5/23/2017 12:54 AM 31 Our stay was very enjoyable. As visitors from Australia it was wonderful to experience a small, vibrant US town. Our young adult children travelled with us and enjoyed the experience as well. It gave us an insight into town life not just cold hotel life. Seeing the gardens and pets was great. Especially great because we were there in winter so to see snow shovels being used and snow mobiles parked in driveways was something we do not see at home. 5/23/2017 12:48 AM 32 We walked through the neighborhood and everyone we met was quite nice. I got the impression quite a few of them were weekly renters as well. 5/22/2017 9:26 PM 33 Haven't had any interactions with neighbors, but we did interact quite a bit with ski shop personnel.5/22/2017 9:01 PM 34 None to speak of which was not negative but peaceful and we felt like we were home.5/22/2017 8:37 PM 35 All of our experiences have been wonderful.5/22/2017 8:37 PM 36 The neighbors we spoke to were extremely friendly and welcoming.5/22/2017 8:14 PM 37 No interactions 5/22/2017 8:02 PM 38 I have had nice interactions that leave me with a positive perspective on the Bozeman community 5/22/2017 7:40 PM 39 We have had no negative interactions.5/22/2017 6:53 PM 40 I did not have any interaction with the neighbors .5/22/2017 6:38 PM 41 Basically good, mostly we do not meet the neighbors or we greet them in passing. Everyone was polite and willing to answer any questions we had. 5/22/2017 6:36 PM 42 No bad interactions with neighbors. Main problem has been neighborhood construction or renovation activities extending late into the evening. 5/22/2017 5:53 PM 43 All great experiences!!!5/22/2017 5:45 PM 44 Great! They provided us with restaurant recommendations.5/22/2017 5:38 PM 45 Our vacation rental, shared by 4 professors, was in a lovely neighborhood. We walked to campus each day, and the neighbors we saw said hello. Otherwise it was quiet and lovely. 5/22/2017 5:20 PM 46 We loved our experience!5/22/2017 5:18 PM 47 Excellent. We've stayed in some wonderful properties.5/22/2017 5:05 PM 48 We loved the condo we stayed in during our visit to Bozeman. It was a very unique unit that resembled an industrial warehouse. So much cooler than a hotel. We went to the local bakery that was across the street every morning. And to restaurants in our neighborhood for lunch and dinner. We respect the house rules and are always very respectful of our neighbors when ever we stay in a vacation rental. We have stayed in vacation rentals over the last 10 years in Napa Valley, Seattle, New York City, San Diego, Manchester, VT, Montreal and Duxbury, MA - all for family vacations. 5/22/2017 5:04 PM 49 Struck up conversation with a neighbor who was a resident. He and my spouse had love of hunting. Made a friend who he enjoyed spending time with. 5/22/2017 4:54 PM 50 We had no problem at all. If anything we received a "hello" when we came.5/22/2017 4:53 PM 51 The neighbors we met next door to our rental house seemed to enjoy our company, especially our 97 year old grandpa and a couple of toddlers. But if they don't want us...it's OK. We'll move on. 5/22/2017 4:48 PM 52 we really didn't run into the neighbors -- we spent most of our time downtown eating and shopping.5/22/2017 4:43 PM 13 / 19 Vacation Rentals in Bozeman SurveyMonkey 53 All good! We have used Mountain Home Vacation rentals, Airbnb, Homeaway, and VRBO to find our vacation rentals. We have been happy with every single rental we have reserved (we even went to Georgetown lake last July 4th and rented a huge lake house for our whole family to stay together)! We have become friends with several of these vacation rental home owners and have also gotten to know a few neighbors and enjoy seeing them when we visit each summer (we also visit in the fall and spring). It has enhanced our experience because it feels like we are staying in a property that is loved by the homeowner, and we can feel that from the way the rentals are taken care of and how friendly the neighbors have been. 5/22/2017 4:42 PM 54 We had wonderful experiences and it seemed the home we were in was a neighborhood of part-time homeowners, so there were very few people around. we were on waving terms with our neighbors. We prefer being in town rather than 30 minutes out of town at our relation's home. 5/22/2017 4:41 PM 55 We have always had really good experience with the neighbors. We have found Bozeman to be a friendly and kind community. It has been such a great way to get to know the local communities. 5/22/2017 4:33 PM 56 Awesome experiences. Never had a bad experience.5/22/2017 4:30 PM 57 None. Typically we don't try to engage with neighbors unless engaged with as the properties we stay at are residential and want to respect the privacy of others 5/22/2017 4:26 PM 58 N/a 5/22/2017 4:25 PM 59 We didn't have any interaction w/ neighbors. It was a quiet & safe neighborhood.5/22/2017 4:22 PM 60 We've only rented in Bozeman once, but we were in a quiet neighborhood with very friendly neighbors.5/22/2017 4:18 PM 61 Excellent experience, lovely neighbors, great community.5/22/2017 4:16 PM 62 It was winter so no interaction good or bad 5/22/2017 4:10 PM 63 We've had no problems with neighbors in our Mtn. Home rentals.5/22/2017 4:10 PM 64 We've really had no interactions other than a wave if we're both outside at the same time.5/22/2017 4:07 PM 65 Nice neighbors. Enjoyed stay.5/22/2017 4:03 PM 66 No problems. We've enjoyed staying in a home. It enabled us to share the home with long time friends.5/22/2017 4:01 PM 67 We stayed in a lovely neighborhood which we really enjoyed. We didn't interact with any neighbors. We enjoyed being able to walk downtown where we found lots of fun restaurants and enjoyed playing and walking in the local parks. 5/22/2017 4:00 PM 68 Always good- vacation rentals are the way to see a place from a locals perspective and are highly preferable to a hotel or other comercial experience. 5/22/2017 3:59 PM 69 We have made friends in Bozeman in the neighborhood we stay in for the last 8 years.5/22/2017 3:57 PM 70 Our experiences have always been very good!5/22/2017 3:56 PM 71 No interactions 5/22/2017 3:54 PM 72 We have always tried to be considerate given the challenges associated with vacation rentals. We never had a problem and many times neighbors were very friendly. 5/22/2017 3:50 PM 73 I have only ever met wonderful people in Bozeman. We come for two weeks every other year. We love it.5/22/2017 3:50 PM 74 All good. We literally had the best vacation. We spent all our time in shops and restaurants mi going with folks. We even think someday we will buy a place in Bozeman. 5/22/2017 3:48 PM 75 Good when we see each other.5/22/2017 3:45 PM 76 Mostly good, except for the neighbor behind us that was a bitch the first night. She'd always drive by and flip us off. It was funny! We got along with all the other neighbors! 5/22/2017 3:45 PM 77 I've never had a bad experience.5/22/2017 3:45 PM 78 all my interactions were good 5/22/2017 3:44 PM 79 No interactions with neighbors.5/22/2017 3:44 PM 80 It was wonderful.5/22/2017 3:42 PM 14 / 19 Vacation Rentals in Bozeman SurveyMonkey Q8 Lastly, do you have any thoughts about your vacation rental experience(s) in Bozeman that you might like us to share with our city commissioners, who are weighing whether or not to ban rentals in a large portion of the city? Answered: 91 Skipped: 17 #Responses Date 1 Loved being able to rent someone's home. It made for a very enjoyable stay. Please keep the rental homes!5/25/2017 9:55 PM 2 It's ridiculous. I have a large family, would rather stay in a rental vs a hotel. I don't want to give money to nationally owned hotels. We spend money at local stores and restaurants. Bozeman is a great town, keep it that way. If ANYTHING just ban Air BNB! I trust a reliable rental agency such as Mountain Home! 5/24/2017 8:44 PM 3 It is a shame to have houses sit empty and we appreciate that some people are willing to rent their home. It enabled us to stay as a family and spend more time in bzn. We would spent only 2 to 3 days in bzn if we would have stayed in a hotel and would be less likely to return. 5/24/2017 2:09 PM 4 I had good rental experiences and it's nice to rent a home versus stay in a hotel.5/24/2017 9:47 AM 5 We own a home in Billings and appreciate our good neighbors. We treat others the way we would want to be treated which means we are respectful of the fact that when we rent a home in Bozeman, it's someone's neighborhood. We want to be a good neighbor to them for the time that we're there. 5/24/2017 7:43 AM 6 It would be the city's loss to ban rentals!!!5/24/2017 6:35 AM 7 We love the vacation rentals we have stayed in. We love the neighborhood and the option of not staying in a motel. We like having extra rooms of a condo or a house and space to cook and enjoy our family. 5/23/2017 9:14 PM 8 I am a Bozeman native (born here) and currently live in MI. I cannot imagine, not having the vacation home rental as an option to bring my family (husband and 4 kids) back to experience Bozeman. 5/23/2017 8:36 PM 9 Yes....do Not ban rentals. People with kids and animals prefer rentals over hotels!!!!!!5/23/2017 7:04 PM 10 It's essential to the well-being of my family. We always stay longer at a rental. Never stayed longer than three days at a hotel. 5/23/2017 6:54 PM 11 If there are problem rentals, deal with them. Otherwise, let the well-regulated accommodations continue. Bozeman is a wonderful, special place. We have stayed in houses with 3 - 6 people, and between buying groceries and eating in restaurants, I'm sure we helped the economy. 5/23/2017 6:52 PM 12 Not sure we will bring extra family members for graduation if unable to rent a house!5/23/2017 6:29 PM 13 Seems like a ban would infringe on property owners rights 5/23/2017 6:08 PM 14 It was a perfect option to gather the family together for a celebration. We could not have done this type of experience without the vacation rental option. 5/23/2017 5:45 PM 15 These places are great to stay in. My guess is the Bozeman is turning into the lovely snob knob. Where people won't want to visit. The atmosphere is ritzy. Want a private neighborhood well maybe move back to a gated community where you belong. Most hotels are junk in Bozeman. Not clean And over priced 5/23/2017 5:10 PM 16 they are necessary to satisfy demand.5/23/2017 4:11 PM 17 We stayed in a motel our first visit. It is a much more satisfying and relaxing experience to stay in a home.5/23/2017 3:55 PM 18 We loved being situated in a community just north of the main street in close proximity to the running trails leading north out of the city. 5/23/2017 3:44 PM 19 Vacation rentals provide us the room and privacy to visit with our families that local or brand name hotels can not begin to provide. I view them as only a place to sleep if I went that route. 5/23/2017 3:43 PM 15 / 19 Vacation Rentals in Bozeman SurveyMonkey 20 We usually come down as a family or with another family for ski races. This past year those were 4-5 day events. Staying in a house in town makes this a great way to spend the time and enjoy downtown Bozeman. It takes a lot out of us all when we travel like this and have to stay in hotels. I have 3 kids. Nobody sleeps or eats well, and I would honestly likely not sign up for as many travel competitions if I could have this quality home like experience. PLease don't take this option away! 5/23/2017 3:28 PM 21 I think it's great for larger families to rent a home inBozeman rather than travel to the smaller towns and pay a lot more for a hotel room or condo. 5/23/2017 3:27 PM 22 There are always going to be some bad apples that destroy the experience for others. We are struggling with the same issue here in Austin. At the end of the day, regulate them like a hotel room, charge them a license fee (if not already) and don't renew their permit after (3) bad incidents. Seems to be working here. 5/23/2017 3:21 PM 23 I loved my rental! I now live out of state and love rentals for reuniting with my family. The rental felt more like home than a hotel would have. 5/23/2017 3:17 PM 24 We appreciate and have used all options for staying here, want to see that continue. Staying in a neighborhood gives a better feel for living here versus a hotel, which helped us decide to move here. Please don't ban rentals 5/23/2017 1:06 PM 25 I like to stay at a home because it's a better atmosphere to relax. I have more space and I like to travel with my whole family. If I had to stay at a hotel, I most likely would come visit my son at MSU with just my husband. I actually spend more money in the town of Bozeman with the whole family as everyone is a "spender" particularly my teenage daughter! (Haha). I wouldn't allow her to bring a friend either if we didn't have a home and the extra space. Thinking about it, we also would probably just fly in for a weekend to visit MSU instead of spending a whole week. A home rental is part of the vacation experience. I would loose the vacation and make it a school visit to Bozeman instead. 5/23/2017 12:24 PM 26 I can not fathom why you would not want to continue with vacation rentals. We come to your city and spend a fortune in the local economy. Staying in a hotel does not provide the same level of comfort for families who want to take in the local vibe and we would most likely discontinue family / friend trips if we had to stay in a hotel style lodging. 5/23/2017 12:22 PM 27 If i had not stayed in town in the rental i probably would not have spent as much time shopping and eating in town 5/23/2017 12:12 PM 28 would rather stay in a vacation rental than a hotel/motel because it is more like being at home.5/23/2017 11:45 AM 29 Especially for out of town student parents - this option allowed us to host extended family under same roof, host informal breakfasts at graduation and provide a base "like home" for our student child at the time. We were able to invite extended family that otherwise would not have afforded the trip, and they in turn had discretionary funds to visit/shop downtown Bozeman. Sad to remove this option - sad for Bozeman and lost visits. 5/23/2017 11:38 AM 30 Do not ban them. They are the best lodging places for those we enhance the economy of Bozeman 5/23/2017 10:53 AM 31 Please share the entire survey! We really value our time in your city and hope this wonderful aspect will not be removed. It would greatly detract from our visits!!! Thank you for your attention! 5/23/2017 9:56 AM 32 I had a great experience with my rental. I like the more home-like feeling.5/23/2017 9:53 AM 33 The idea of banning vacation rentals is the most misguided, counterproductive idea I can imagine. Between the places I rent and my patronage of Bozeman businesses, both during the summer and for winter skiing, it is not an exaggeration to say that I spend tens of thousands of dollars in the local economy. Many people I know are doing the same thing. If city officials are worried about housing for locals, they might ask where the jobs are going to be for locals without people like me buying expensive cappuccinos at the Daily and steaks at Open Range and cheese and sausage at Joe's Parkway. If they were to ban vacation rentals I would still find a way to come to Bozeman, but it would be by skirting the rules instead of using the various wonderful and efficient services that now exist. Thank you for fighting this demented effort. I'm sorry I didn't have time to respond to this yesterday. 5/23/2017 8:04 AM 34 We only stay in the heart of any city so we truly experience the area like the locals. We were a large group so it gives everyone independence as far as getting around whether we walked or road bikes. Being that it was our first time to Bozeman we all fell in love with its quaintness with cosmopolitan amenities, the outdoor activities available in your backyard, and the beautiful scenery. We will be back for a visit since we have family there and sincerely hope to rent another vacation property. Good luck with your efforts. It would be a shame for the local businesses who depend on tourist dollars to band these vacation homes. 5/23/2017 7:00 AM 35 Because I had the chance to experience living in a neighborhood in Bozeman, made me want to purchase a second home and live here. If I didn't get a chance to experience this, I never would have had the urge to purchase. 5/23/2017 6:18 AM 36 I don't understand the banning of all rentals. Perhaps more regulations or something...but not outright banning.5/23/2017 6:12 AM 37 I think that to ban all rentals would punish responsible home owners and holiday makers unnecessarily. Why not increase oversight and responsibility to prevent bad experiences instead of inconveniencing everyone. We travel as a group of adults from the UK, and would not want to stay in a hotel instead. 5/23/2017 12:54 AM 16 / 19 Vacation Rentals in Bozeman SurveyMonkey 38 As a family of 6 adults the townhouse/house offered us a very affordable place to stay together. it allowed us to relax in a large space after 24 hours of travel from Australia. The opportunity to cook our own meals was fantastic and visiting the local shops and restaurants was great. The local bakery was sensational, something we would not have experienced at a hotel/motel as it was not near them. We travel overseas often and love the opportunity to "base" ourselves in a "home". You feel more like a local than just a tourist. Bozeman has so much to offer we have stayed twice, once in a hotel and once in a house, the house stay was by far the better experience. 5/23/2017 12:48 AM 39 We loved our experience. We do not like to stay in hotels, instead preferring a "home away from home". I certainly can understand why certain new neighborhoods/hsa's might want to exclude rentals, bit its certainly not fair to the homeowners to change the rules after the game has started. 5/22/2017 9:26 PM 40 Please keep vacation rentals. We're a family of 4 who like to bring our kids' friends on vacations with us. Hotels rooms are okay for a night or two but tend to get uncomfortable & claustrophobic after awhile. Plus we like to make a lot of the meals ourselves and value the full kitchens found in houses. We always end up eating several meals out at local restaurants, so we still support your local economy; we just don't want to eat every meal out. 5/22/2017 9:01 PM 41 I am very surprised that this would even be considered. Our group of 5 really, really loved staying in a local neighborhood. We rented a car and spent several days dining and shopping in Bozeman and the other time driving thru and on an overnight pack trip in Yellowstone. We all love doing local (one in our group was a local restaurant owner back home) and would not travel to an area if it meant large chain hotels. 5/22/2017 8:37 PM 42 We have had the privilege to rent homes that accommodate our family and allow us to share in the Montana experience together. 5/22/2017 8:37 PM 43 Vacation rentals like the one we stayed at in Bozeman offer a unique opportunity to bring people together in one place. They allow for a larger group or families to have a more relaxing experience in their own private vacation home. While allowing for the opportunity to interact with more local residents. Personally for me, having a family of 5 and also having friends all over the country, vacation rentals provide a better environment to reconnect as a family and with friends. 5/22/2017 8:14 PM 44 I think it is a great idea to have rentals. It is a much better set up for big groups.5/22/2017 8:02 PM 45 Yes. Considering limitations on property ower's rights to leverage the property they own for income potential is a violator on of the property owner's rights. Instead focus on the alleged social impact like noise and put guidelines in place for that. People bought property in Bozeman with the expectation of the option for rental income and taking this option away is a violation of their rights as a property owner . I am shocked Bozeman is even considering such limitations that will hurt the local economy and its working and tax paying citizens. 5/22/2017 7:40 PM 46 We only stay in privately owned rentals when staying anywhere for more than two nights. We would never travel to Bozeman again to ski or visit Yellowstone if we were unable to have a private home rental. We don't care for stays longer than a night or two in hotels. 5/22/2017 6:53 PM 47 I can understand why communities might not want short term rentals as I live in a tourist town with rentals as well. When you are staying in hotels-you are just a visitor, but when you are staying in a home, you are actually living in the community. Since my stay in Bozeman, I have started a plan and should have a home of my own within 2 years. 5/22/2017 6:38 PM 48 We are not aware of the number of rental vs owner homes but have not been aware there was a problem. We are aware that the home prices seem to be high and maybe that is the reason. To keep the homes in use and provide some income for the owner, it seems that it is a good thing. The number of visitors to the area is evident and with all the outdoor activities it is going to remain a draw to many people. For the ambiance and opportunity it provides for families, I would not like to see a restriction on the rentals. 5/22/2017 6:36 PM 49 We are only in the accommodations to overnight. Our activity level is outdoors. Our spend for a family of 4 Fishing and overnight is $2,000 per day, no airfares included. 5/22/2017 6:17 PM 50 I am surprised that the city commissioners would restrict property owners who are part-time residents to lease their homes in their absence. 5/22/2017 5:53 PM 51 Vacation rentals are ideal for family's when visiting their college students! I have younger children and we can have an at home experience when visiting when we rent a home! I will not stay in a hotel!!!! 5/22/2017 5:45 PM 52 Wonderful experience- the only way to travel with families.5/22/2017 5:38 PM 53 This vacation rental was a great experience! Much more affordable and much more pleasant than staying in a hotel. Your hotels in Bozeman seem strangely overpriced. Sharing this vacation rental with friends I've known since graduate school was what made the difference in enabling me to visit your city for this conference. It also made this conference a really great experience overall. We had a few other friends over for a cookout one night, and everyone who visited our place was super complementary. We all really liked Bozeman! 5/22/2017 5:20 PM 17 / 19 Vacation Rentals in Bozeman SurveyMonkey 54 I am a community planner in CT and just attended a session on vacation rentals at the American Planning Association's National Planning Conference. All of the speakers agreed that a ban does not work. New York City has over 45,000 vacation rental units despite a ban, for example. Certain regulations make sense - posting house rules and the local noise ordinance, requiring unit owners to have a company pick up the garbage on a regular schedule, requiring a permit/registration system with a local contact person, setting up a complaint phone line, limiting the number of vacation rentals in a neighborhood. See info by a company called Host Compliance. 5/22/2017 5:04 PM 55 Don't understand why penalize home owner who invested in the community. With the university being close there is a need for rentals. 5/22/2017 4:54 PM 56 It would put a damper on your tourism, bringing in large families would be tough to come altogether. From what our family observed, tourism is not an issue in Bozeman, and those that come and go seem to bring business to your area, not wear and tear. 5/22/2017 4:53 PM 57 Very much enjoyed our stay. Would and will likely come back and visit in the future.5/22/2017 4:53 PM 58 We visit Bozeman once a year for a family reunion. Having the ability to rent a large house and stay together is one of the best parts of the trip. It would not stop us from coming, but would be sad to lose this option. 5/22/2017 4:52 PM 59 I've heard from locals that a majority of the city commissioners these days are not from Bozeman, rather from other places, and are changing the character of the community, not in a good way (if you are a long-time resident). Good luck voting them out! 5/22/2017 4:48 PM 60 But why? I guess Bozeman city government is notoriously known for being over reaching. Didn't they lose a lawsuit recently for something similar? Lol 5/22/2017 4:44 PM 61 For our family of 6, hotels are not a good option. Because we loved our family trip to Bozeman I'm also planning to host my next company's customer conference (approximately 200 people) in Bozeman. Many will use hotels, but I surely hope that rentals aren't banned. Thanks for taking my comments. 5/22/2017 4:43 PM 62 PLEASE DON"T BAN VACATION RENTALS! It is one of the nicest things about visiting, at least until a nice 4 star hotel or resort is built! The Hilton doesn't even cut it! 5/22/2017 4:42 PM 63 I can only imagine that this ban is being considered because of "party groups." Perhaps a maximum of number of guests per home and no renting to people less than 25 years old. I think this type of ban discourages family travel especially. It's families who appreciate a kitchen for meal prep and varied bedrooms for different generations. This plan seems shortsighted. 5/22/2017 4:41 PM 64 It would be so sad to not be able to enjoy Bozeman as much as we have so far. The vacation rentals have allowed us to come back to Bozeman. Without it, we would most likely find other places to visit, which would sadden us. 5/22/2017 4:33 PM 65 Sounds like it is only going to be an elite city, where competition is not allowed. Hell, why not take it one step further and only allow one motel chain in the valley so the prices skyrocket. Sounds like democrats are on the move again. This kind of crap really pisses me off. Competition is awesome. Regulates prices and gives selection for large families that don't have a good motel/hotel option. 5/22/2017 4:30 PM 66 The hotels in Bozeman are awful. Even if I preferred hotel lodging, there isn't a single hotel within city limits I found to be an establishment I'd like to stay in. When I ski the local areas or fish, I prefer to stay near downtown Bozeman to have the best of the natural and downtown worlds. 5/22/2017 4:26 PM 67 This would be a mistake of gigantic proportions!5/22/2017 4:25 PM 68 I rent out a vacation property in South Carolina & can not imagine what would happen with our property ownership if we could no longer rent it out. We also are very choosy about who we rent to as it is our personal property and we want it cared and maintained as much as our neighbors. 5/22/2017 4:22 PM 69 Beautiful homes in Bozeman on the vacation rental market draw affluent visitors like ourselves who spend thousands of dollars each visit patronizing local shops and businesses. It would be a great loss to the city, and your homeowners if you took away their ability to rent the expensive properties they invested in for exactly this purpose. We were considering investing ourselves but this short sided motion by city commissioners may cause us to look elsewhere. 5/22/2017 4:16 PM 70 Bozeman is a lovely city, we bring our extended family in for a vacation so some can ski others visit museums or shop. If their was not the option of renting a house we would not come as a hotel would not work for us. 5/22/2017 4:10 PM 71 Many other cities that are vacation destinations allow rentals. Palm Springs, CA; Sarasota, FL; San Antonio, TX all come to mind. It would seem very odd to most tourists if vacation homes were not allowed in Bozeman. They would seek other cities because hotel options do not provide enough room, flexibility, or atmosphere. 5/22/2017 4:10 PM 18 / 19 Vacation Rentals in Bozeman SurveyMonkey 72 Why would you ban rentals that bring in so many people to your wonderful town? If you push me out to Livingston, Belgrade, or further, we will most likely not come in to town as much to eat out and shop. We would miss the wonderful experience and you would miss our contributions to the city coffers. if people are having issues with renters' behaviour I'm sure that the rental companies have rules that can evict and refuse future rentals to people who exhibit a lack of respect for the neighborhood. You should want to share the beauty of your town, not expect us to see Bozeman from the window of a chain hotel. 5/22/2017 4:07 PM 73 Seems like a ban would have far more negative effects than positive. Major loss to Bozeman economy.5/22/2017 4:07 PM 74 Limited rentals would likely keep the atmosphere more neighborhood feeling, making for a more relaxed vacation experience. If allowed a large portion of homes to be rentals, then possible to lose that feeling and have more of a party atmosphere? I think that would detract from the experience. 5/22/2017 4:03 PM 75 It was so much better than staying in a hotel Our whole family was able to be together. Would not be possible or as enjoyable in a hotel. We would be sad if that option was taken away. 5/22/2017 4:02 PM 76 Staying where we did enabled us to see and enjoy another part of town we would not have gone to. We actually looked at property for sale in the are since we liked it so much. 5/22/2017 4:01 PM 77 We would be more likely to return there with our family if we were able to rent a home rather than stay at a hotel/motel for financial and especially aesthetic reasons. We felt like we really got to know what a beautiful city Bozeman is, rather than just the main drag commercial experience. 5/22/2017 4:00 PM 78 I think vacation home rentals are n important part of tourism. They offer people a way to stay in big Groups, experience bozeman at a truly local level and are the most authentic experience you can have without being a guest in someone else's home. I thrill banning vacation home rentals would benefit corporations while taking away a creative source of income for locals and an authentic bozeman experience for tourists. Additionally vacation rentals make my wedding a much more enjoyable experiences for all guests. They stayed longer And enjoyed bozeman more. 5/22/2017 3:59 PM 79 It would be unfortunate and very distressing if rentals were banned. We who have visited the area for 8 years would have to choose another community for our 7 week vacation. 5/22/2017 3:57 PM 80 We have always (11 years) rented in the Bridger Creek area and have enjoyed the amenities and relative distance to Bridger Bowl! It would be sad if the opportunity did not exist! 5/22/2017 3:56 PM 81 We loved staying as a family in the neighborhoods. It is not ideal for a skiing family of five to use a hotel.5/22/2017 3:54 PM 82 City should focus on traffic patterns, parking and managing growth. Jumping in and making rules that dictate how homeowners use their property is not positive. Vacation rentals do not affect quality of life to the extent that these issues do. Most likely the homeowners factored some income into their decision to purchase the home and to change the rules after the fact seems unfair. 5/22/2017 3:50 PM 83 We have stayed at four different rentals and have always had a wonderful time. Just as importantly, I'm not aware of any complaints or issues locals have had with my family. We really consider Bozeman our second home. 5/22/2017 3:50 PM 84 Our experience made us fall in love with Bozeman, made us feel like part of the city, and made us want to move ( not kidding!). It made us more conscientious as tourists. 5/22/2017 3:48 PM 85 As a high tech company owner, this is a great way for us to manage our cost when we have staff in town and to provide a different, friendlier atmosphere than a hotel for our employees. 5/22/2017 3:46 PM 86 When we come for vacation we don't want to stay in a hotel. Having a condo or log cabin works perfectly for us for relaxation and cooking meals. We certainly hope the city commissioners get this right! 5/22/2017 3:45 PM 87 Banning vacation rentals will be very detrimental to the local economy. There are not many options and families like ours stay anywhere from 2-4 weeks, we wanna be in the neighborhoods... 5/22/2017 3:45 PM 88 I think they should not be banned. I would much rather stay in a house than in a hotel.5/22/2017 3:45 PM 89 We would have never thought about staying in Bozeman without the house rental options available there.. But now that we have been to Bozeman, I can't imagine coming back to Yellowstone and not staying in Bozeman.. 5/22/2017 3:44 PM 90 It certainly allowed me to see a neighborhood rather than just a strip of hotels. We are considering buying a home in Bozeman due to our experience. 5/22/2017 3:44 PM 91 It was really helpful staying in the different neighborhoods over the course of 2 years. We ended up buying a home and could never have figured out where we wanted to be if we didn't have the ability to stay in VRBO homes. 5/22/2017 3:42 PM 19 / 19 Vacation Rentals in Bozeman SurveyMonkey
