I'm sure the information I'm sharing with you is no surprise. In the Gallatin Valley, currently
there are more job openings then people looking for jobs. Finding quality help has become
extremely difficult and extremely expensive. In the years past I had the luxury of using my
message board on my pole sign. After the Aaron's building was built with the city's no set back
design, which allowed the Aaron's building to be built 20 ft closer to the street than the rest of
buildings on the same block it completely covered my pole sign. I had to relocate my pole sign
to the other side of my entrance. Under the new city sign code I was not allowed to retain my
message board.
In the years past I was able to advertise help wanted positions on my message board, and
frankly it produced the greatest results. Now, that is no longer possible. I have exhausted every
avenue I know to advertise my current job openings. With the massive decline in news paper
subscriptions, advertising in the news paper simply doesn't produce results. I have spent
thousands on Indeed advertising job positions on-line. Even now, Craigslist now charges a fee to
post help wanted ads.
This year alone, we have raised our wages from $12 per hour to $16 per hour to attract quality
help.
Obviously with the extremely rigid city guidelines for Temporary signs, it is impossible to even
properly market quarterly National Sales promotions, since the guidelines only allow 30 days a
year not to run over 15 consecutive days.
With there not being enough days to market our promotions, there most certainly isn't any
days left to post a help wanted banner.
Is the anything you can do, which would allow small businesses to place a professional Help
Wanted banner that would not count against the already few days we are allow to market our
business.
I look forward to hearing your decision.
