Callahan - FY18 Arterial & Collector District Taxes1 Clerk Temp From:RC <flamencagrl@gmail.com> Sent:Thursday, June 15, 2017 4:28 PM To:Agenda Subject:Action Item F(3) - FY 18 Budget Work Session - Special Revenues: Arterial & Collector Fund Categories:Public Comment Dear Sir/Madam, 1. Thank you in advance for listening to my comments. My name is Renee Callahan and I reside at 717 N. Rouse Ave. 2. I am writing today to object to the latest proposal to increase the Arterial & Collector Fund property tax assessment during FY2018. 3. Since the City’s adoption of the Arterial & Collector Fund, this fund has more than tripled from first year assessments of $565,000 in FY16, to $1,092,410 in FY17 to a recommended $1,816,250 in FY 18. June Comm’n Memo re: FY18 Budget Work Session at 132. 4. Although I do not doubt that some street improvements are required, it is unconscionable for the Commission to continue to approve spiraling increases in property taxes with little or no thought or consideration for those residents who live on lower or fixed incomes. 5. It is moreover critical that we as a community begin to make hard choices about what our priorities are, recognizing that we cannot have everything we need or want, if property taxes are our only source of revenue. 6. Accordingly, I request that the City place a moratorium on any increases in the Arterial & Collector Fund property tax assessments, pending a comprehensive and holistic re-evaluation of how taxes to improve our streets compare with expenditures necessary to accommodate other competing priorities (e.g., new high school, more affordable housing, improved justice center, etc.). 7. Thank you again for considering my concerns.
