The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
Building, Wednesday afternoon. February 16, 1955 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Lowe,
Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the
Clerk. when the following proceedings were had:
I Minutes of the last session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by
Commissioner Swanson, .tha~ the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following
Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe. Commissioner Erwl.n, Commissioner Swanson; those
voting No, none.
Performance Bond on Aerial Ladder Contraot
The performance bond covering the oontraot of Peter Pirsch & Sons Company of Kenosha. Wisconsin
for furnishing one aerial ladder truck as per bid accepted by the City Commission on January 19, 1955
was presented. The bond was approved as to form by the City Attorney. It was moved by Commissioner
Swans on. seconded by COllUJliasioner Brwin, that the bond be aI-proved and accepted and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, COllUJliss ioner l!:rwin,
Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
Report
The report or the Director of Finance for the month of January, 1965 was presented. It was
moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Commissioner Swanson. that the report be acceFted and ordered
filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe,
Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
I City Officials to Observe Sanitary Land Fill for Garbage Disposal
It was reported that oity offioials have an opportunity to ride to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to
observe and study the sanitary land fill method of garbage disposal in operation in tha t city.
It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, the. t the City Engineer and
the Street Superintendent be author! zed to make the trip to Coeur d' Alene and their necessary expenses
be paid from the Garbage Fund, and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No vote: those
voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No. none.
Reconstruction of Garage at Sewage Plant
It was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the City Manager be
authorized to purchase the necessary material for rebuilding the garage at the sewage plant, and the
motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner
Erwin. Commissioner SWanson; those voting No, none.
Bids on "Jeep" for Street Department
The Manager reported that the "Jeep" now being used by the Street Superintendent has reached such
a oondition that it can best be used only in emergenoies end he recommended that a new vehicle of the
same type be purchased fb r use by the Street Superintendent. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson.
I seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that the City Manager be instructed to prepare specifications on a
vehicle of this type end that, based on those specifications, the Clerk of the Commission be instructed
and authorized to advertise for bids on such a vehicle. bids to be opened March 16, 1955. and the
motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe. Commissioner
Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
Citizens Approve Planning Board
A group of oitizens met with the Commission to discuss problems on city planning and the need
for a Planning Board. Present were:

Maps to show some suggested planning end to point out need for planning of areas adjaoent to the City
were displayed and disoussed. Mayor Lowe explained some of the many problems that arise relative to
platting and zoning and pointed out need for more extensive and more orderly planning. All present I
were given an opportunity to express their views and it appeared to be the unanimous opinion that
need for a Planning Board is both definite and urgent. The Commission informed the group that it is
their intention to take necessary action to establish such a Board with the least possible delay.
Adjournment
There being no further business to oome before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe. Commissioner Erwi n,
Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
