HomeMy WebLinkAbout1954-11-24 Bozem8n~ Montana 445 November 24~ 1954 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building~ Wednesday afternoon~ November 24~ 1954 at 1:00 0' clock P. M. Present were Mayor Lowe~ Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner SWan8on~ City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk~ when the following proceedings were had: I Minutes of the last session were read~ and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin~ seconded by Commissioner Swanson~ that the minutes be afproved as read~ and the motion was carried by the follow- ing Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe~ Commissioner Erwin~ Commissioner Swanson; those voting No~ none. Sale of Bonds - S. I. D. #S80 This being the time and place set for the sale of bonds in the approximate amount of $3,300.00 for the construction of Special Improvement District No. 380, the affidavit of publication of the Notice was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson~ seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the written bids be opened and read~ and the motion Was carried by the following Aye and No vote: thos e voting Aye being Mayor Lowe~ Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. The written bid of Arthur Moriarty was opened and read and found to be as follows I Par 5% interest. The Mayor called for oral bids and the following bids were heard: O. Walker Par 4!% interest Elsa Howell Par 4 % interest and 251 premium on each bond A Moriarty Par 3.7% interest O. Walker Par * interest Arthur Moriarty Par interest I No further bids being heard, it wes moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the bid of Arthur Moriarty of par and 3i% interest be accepted for the bonds of Special Improve- ment District No. 380, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Conwissioner Erwin~ Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Sewage Plant Operator to Idaho Falls A. D. Wahl, Superintendent of the Sewage Treatment Plant at Boise, Idaho, has gained considerable recognition as a trainer of Sewage Plant Operators. In a conference with him, he states that in one week of training at their plant, any operator can be given much valuable instruction in fundamentals of plant operation. The City Manager recommended that Ruben Batchelder, the new operator at the city's sewage plant, be sent to Boise for one week, at city ex~ense, for a training course. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that Ruben Batchelder, Sewage Plant Operator, be authorized to go to Boise, Idaho for one week and his expenses be paid from the S. D. S. Revenue Fund, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Request for 12-Minute Meters Harold Near, Manager of the Montana Power Company~ has suggested that 12-Minute Parking Meters I be installed in front of the Montana Power Company office on East Main Street. Numerous factors . affecting or which might arise from such an installstion were discussed and it was decided to give the matter further study before any action is taken. Furchase of Furniture for Library Recommendation of the Library Board relative to purchasing additional new furniture for the Library were presented by the City Manager. Following a long range ~rogram for improvement and modernization of the library, it is recommended that three reading tables and fourteen chairs be purchased at this time at a cost of $800.00 plus freight. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the City Manager be authorized to make this purchase, and the 44:6 motion was carried by the followi ng Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner SWanson; those voting No, none. Bids for Aerial Ladder Fire Truck The City Manager reported that specifications for an aerial ladder fire truck have been completed and are reedy so that an advertisement for bids can be published. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the Clerk of the City Commission be authorized to advertise for bids on an aerial ladder fire truck for the Fire Department, I bids to be opened December 22nd, 1954, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Claim of W. D. Howells The claim of W. D. Howells for sidewalk work done for the City of Bozeman during the past season in the amount of $987.35 was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the claim be approved and a warrant issued for its payment, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Expenditures for Civil Defense The City Attorney, as instructed, reported on investigation of the Montana Statute. which specially provides in the Civil Defense Act of 1953 that cities may budget and make expenditures for local defense organizations. Death of A. E. Anderson - Member of police Reserve Notation of the death of Alfred E. Anderson, which occurred on November 20, 1954, is made in these minutes. "Big Andy", as he was popularly known, was a member of the Bozeman Police De:fartment from 1923 until 1945 when he was placed in the police Reserve. His many years of service to this I City were performed with faithfulness and fidelity and his death is mourned by all who knew him.
