The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
Building, Wednesday afternoon, December 1, 1954 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Lowe,
Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the
Clerk, when the following proceedings were had:
I Minutes of the last session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by
Commissioner Erwin, that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following
Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those
voting No, none.
Pay for Employees on Jury Duty
The matter of employees of the City of Bozeman being paid when called for jury duty was discussed.
After consideration, it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that
employees of the City who are called for jury duty be paid by the city the difference between their
jury pay and their City pay, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those
voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
Importation of Gas by Montana Power Company
Mr. Harold Near, of the Montana Power Company, appeared before the Commission to request a
telegram from the City Commission to the Federal Power Commission, Washington, D. C. to urge them
to grant the Montana Fower Company a permanent permit to import gas from Canada into the State of
Montana. He stated that the importation of gas to be stored was necessary in order to guarantee the
future supply of gas for this vicinity and the state. liter consideration, it was moved by Commissi oner
Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that a telegram under the signature of the Mayor and the City
I' Commissioners be sent to the Federal Power Commission, Washington, D. C., favoring the gran ting of a
., permanent permit to import natural gas into the State of Montana, and the motion was carried by the
following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson;
those voting No, none.
Charge for Fire Call - Montana Flour Mills
A letter from the President of the Montana Flour Mills, was read, commending the Fire Department
on the job of exterminating the fire at the lower mill on November 24th.
The matter of a charge for this call was discussed, and upon the recommendation of Fire Chief it
was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the Cle rk of the Commission

bill the Montana Flour Mills for this call in the amount of $150.00 for services rendered, and the
motion was carried by the following Aye end No vote: those voting AYe being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner
Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
Investment of City Funds
A communication from Mr. Towle, State Examiner, was read stating that the present law does not
permit cities to invest idle funds in U. S. Government securities, except in the case of sinking funds.
I Legislators to be Invited to Meet with City Commission
It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the City Manager be
instructed to invi te the senator and t he representatives-elect from Galatin County, to meet wi th the
City Commission to discuss problems affecting cities and towns that might arise at the coming session
of the legislature, and ih e motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye
being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
Use of Fire Truck for Muscular Dystrophy Drive
A request from the members of the Fire Department for permission to use the fire truck on Main
Street to assist in the Muscular Dystrophy drive being sponsored by Fire Departments throughout
44R the country was reported. The Commissi on stated they had no objection to the use of the fire truck
on Main Street for this purpose.
Resolution No. 183 - Certifying Delinquent Taxes
Resolution No. 183 certifying delinquent special assessments and installments of speciAl assess-
ments to the Treasurer of Gallatin County as of November 30th, 1954 was presented, entitled;

It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the resolution be
passed and adopted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye be-

It was moved by Commissioner E~in, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the applications be
a~proved and the Director of Finance be authorized to make the abatements on the tax records, and the
motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner
Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
Reports
The following reports for the month of November were presented;
Librarian Sewage Plant Operator
It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the reForts be
accepted and ordered filed, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting
Aye being Mayor Leme, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
Women Prisoners to be Committed to County Jail
The matter of women prisoners being committed to the City Jail waS considered, and the City
Manager was instruoted to make the necessary arrangements with offioials of Gallatin County whereby
women who are given a jail sentence in Police Court will be committed to the County Jail. I
Milk Ordinance Approved
The City Attorney reported that the model Milk Ordinance discussed at the meeting of November
lOth, 1954 and as approved by the Livestock Sanitary Board and recommended for adoption for the
local health unit and said board could be adopted by reference.
After discussion, it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner SwanSon, that the
City Attorney be instructed to prepare an ordinance to adopt by reference the Milk Ordinance and Code
as approved by the Livestock Sanitary Board, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No

No, none.

There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was
