January 5. 1955 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Frel3ent. were Mayor Lowe. Commissioner Erwin. Commissioner Swanson. City Manager Henderson. City Attorney Lovelace and the Cle rk. when the following proceedinGS were had: Minutes of tile last session were read. and it was moved by Commissioner Swanson. seconded by I Commissioner E~vin. tllat the minutes be an.roved as read. and the motion was carried by the follow- ing Aye end No vote: those voti ng Aye being Me_yor Lowe, Commissioner Erwjn. Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Consideration of Bids - New Fire Truck Fire Chief McCrosson. together with members of the Fire Department. having; completed tabulation and comparison of bids on a fire truck which were received on December 22. 1954. presented their recommendations at this time. Their recommendations were that. if this equipment were purchased with a siJ( cylinder motor, the bid on Feter Firsch & Sons ec;uil,ment was the best bid but, if it is desired to purchase the equi:pment with a 12 cylinder motor. the bid on Seacrave equipment was the best bid. Representatives of the bidders on the above two makes of equipment were present and were given an opportunity to give further explanation relative to their equipment and their bids. After a lengthy discuss ion. it was decided that some further study should be given to this matter before a decisjon is reached and that it may be advisable to send representatives of this city to neighboring cities to further examine fire equipment before a contract is awarded. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Commissioner Swanson. that not to exceed three representatives of this cit~ as may be designated by the City Manager. are hereby authOrized to I travel to Billings, Great Falls. Helene. 811d Butte to examine fire apparatus in use in those cities and the. t expenses for such travel be paid from the General Fund and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting; Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin. Commissioner Swanson; those voting; No, none. After examina- tion of the claims in detail and checking against the claim register. it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson. that the claims be approved and warrants issued for their payment and the motion was carried by the fbllowingAye and No vote: those voting Aye being; Mayor Lowe. Wholesale, Walter Erickson Aprlication from Walter Erickson for a license to sell beer as a vholeseler was presented. This being a renewal license, the application being in proper form and accompanied by the required fee. it was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Commissioner Swanson. that the app;lication be approved and the license ordered to be issued and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe. Commissioner Erwin. Commissioner Swanson; those votin~ No, none. Report on Conference - Highway Matters - Fred Quinnell. Jr. The City Manager reI-.orted on an informal conference which he had on this date wi th Fred Q.uinnell. Jr.. Engineer for tile Montana Highway Department. relative to projects in Bozeman. Mr. ~uinnell stated unofficially that. on the relocation of U. S. Highway #191. which would be an extension of Main Street to the west end thence southwest out of the City. it is expected that this project will be ready for contract letting in the fiscal year of 1966 which would be the year beginning July 1, 1955. He also stated tha t the contract letting of the proposed truck route in Bozeman should be ready for either the fiscal year 1956 or 1957. He further stated that he e:xpects to brinE the engineer in charge in this area for the United States Bureau of Public Roads to Bozeman within the next two or three weeks to review the proposed new location for U. S. #191 end the other projects in Bozeman in which the City. the State Highway Department find the BUreau of Fublic Roeds will have ,joint interest. I Quinnell indiceted that wi tldn a short time the Montane Highway Department should be able to give this City wri tten and detailed information relative to these proj ects. Pedestrian Crossing Sign The City Marager reported that he has received written permission for the City to attach a cable to build inEs at 237 and 240 East Main Street on which to hang a pedestrian crossin!;; sign and it :i s proposed to hang e new style. double faced. lighted, plastic Sign at this location. The estimated " cost of the proposed sign is $350.00 to $400.00. This would be a considerably smaller cost than for a Neon lighted sign. 460 Adjournment There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by Commissioner El'"V'lin. seconded by Commissioner Swanson. that the meetinc adjourn and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting; Aye being Mayor Lowe.
