HomeMy WebLinkAbout1954-03-31 Bozeman, Montana :355 March 31, 1954 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday afternoon, March 31, 1954 at 1:00 o'clock F. M. Present were Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Healy, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk, when the following proceedings were had: I Minutes of the last regular session, and the special session of March 29th and 30th, were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those vo ting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commdssioner Healy; those voting No, none. Bids for Tenth Avenue Trunk Sewer The Manager stated th is was the time and place set for the opening of bids for the co ns truction of the Tenth Avenue Trunk: Sewer. He presented "the affidavit of publication of the Notice to Bidders, whereupon it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the bids be opened and read, and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. The following bids were thereupon opened and read: Lee &: Ward Bozeman $12,111.60 Allen Edens " 17,250.50 Utility Builders, Inc.,Great Falls 16,764.56 Nixon & Taylor Bozeman 19,312.18 Haggerty-Messmer Company, Bozeman 10 ,435.50 After checking the bids, the City Engineer stated the bids were correct as read. It was moved by Commiss ione r Healy, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the bid of Haggerty-Messmer Company be aocepted I subjeot to possible delay in securing an easement across the Durston Realty Company's pn)perty, and the Clerk of the Commission be authorized to return the bid securities to the unsuooessful bidders, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. Clean-Up Week Mayor Lowe announced the week of May lOth as Clean-up Week. Proposed Agreement to Salvage Tin Cans at City Dump A proposed agreement between the City of Bozeman and Peter Yarzombek, Butte, Montana, as prepared by the City Attorney in accordance with instructiors given him, was presented. The agreement covered removal of tin cans from the City Dump by Mr. Yarzombek. Upon further 00 nsideration of this matter, it was the opinion that the possible gross return from the proposed salvage operations would be too small to warrant the risks and inconveniences which might develop for the city and the matter was tabled indefinitely. Renewal Certificate of Trunk & Son -- Gas & Plumbing Bonds Renewal certificates of Frank J. Trunk & Son for Gas Fitter's bond and Plumbing bond were presented. The certifioates were approved as to form by the City Attorney. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, I seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the renewal certificates be accepted and approved, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. Sale of Lots in Block 20; Butte Addition The matter of selling a portion of Lots 1 to 12 lying; south and ea.st of' the Milwaukee Right-of-way in Blook 20, Butte Addition, which have been purchased ~ the Ci~ at a County tax sale, was considered. It was' moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Conunissioner Erwin, that the Clerk of the Commission be authorized to advertise the sale of these lots, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none. 356 Water Main to Serve East Main Street Mrs. Bender, ONner of Ranch House Motel, 1201 East Main Street, has made inquiry regarding being permitted to run a Ii inch line for water service from the end of the city main near Cypress Street to their Motel. Several other users are getting water service by similar irregular lines from this loca- tion and the situation is not good either from a service vieW}:.-oint or for future development in the area. The City Manager was instructed to make further investigation on the possibility of establishing I a Special Improvement District to install adequate water mains in this area before further considera- tion would be given for the proposed It inch line. Employment of Administrative Assistant Postponed Consideration was given to the employment of an Administrative Assistant as authorized by the City Commission on February 3, 1954. After di scussion, it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the City Manager be instructed to inform the applicants that due to unforeseen circumstances, the proposed position will not be filled at this time, action in the matter is deferred indefinitely and, at such time as it may be reconsidered, the opening for the position will be readvert,ised and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those vo ting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin and Lommissioner Healy; those voting No, none. Adj ou rnment There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Co~nissioner Healy, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissi oner Erwin and Commissioner Healy; those vo ting No, none.
