City Hall building. vVednesday afternoon, September 16, 1953 at 1 :ou 0 I clock P. M. }-'resent were Mayor Secor. Commissioner Erwin. City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk when the foll owing proceedings were had: I Minutes of the last regular session were read. and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Mayor Secor. that the minutes be aI-proved as read, ar:d the motion was carried by the following Aye ar:d No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor. Conunissioner Erwinj those voting No, none. Bond & Contract -- S. I. D. 370 The bond and contract of the Standard Construction Company for the construction of S. 1. D. ~o. 370 were presented. The bond and contract were approved as to form by the C1 ty Attorney. It was moved by Commiss ioner Erwin, seconded by Mayor Secor, that the bond and contract be accepted and approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Erwinj those voting No, none. Cemetery Board Building Inspector Sewage flant Operator Plumbing & Gas Inspector Reports The following reports for the month of August. 1953 were presented: It was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Mayor Secor. that the reports be accepted and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor. Commissioner Erwinj those voting No. none. I Purchase of Copper Pipe and Fittings The Manager stated there was need for approximataly 2000 feet of copper pipe and some fittings in the Water Department. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Mayor Secor. that the City Manager be authorized to purchase copper pipe and fittings in the anroximate amount of t900.00 and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor. Commissioner Erwinj those voting No. none. Liability Insurance for Motor Vehicles It was reported that the liability insurance carried with the Truck Insurance Exchange on mobile equipme,nt of the City will expire September 23rd. 1953. It was moved by Mayor Secor. seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that this insuranoe be renewed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner En,inj those voting No. none. Recommendations for Fire Chief A communication from Fire Chief McCrosson making the following recommendations to eliminate the hazard of fire equipment; leaving the fire station was read: That the parking meter west of the Fire Station driveway be removed. That a flasher signal and siren be hung across Main Street west of the Fire Station to be turned on when the trucks leave the station. I That the words FIRE STATION be painted on the pavement approximately 200 feet from the station. After discussion. the recon~endations were approved except as to painting of signs on the pavement. Confirmati on of Gerald Gates as Policeman A communication from the Chief of Police was read stating that Gerald Gates has coml-'leted his six months probationary period as a patrolman and recommending that he be confirmed as a regular member of the Police Department. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Mayor Secor. that Gerald Gates be confinnedas a reguler member of the Police Department and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: ~~84 those voting Aye being Mayor Secor. Commissioner Erwin; those voting No. none. Sale of Bonds for S. I. D. No. 370 It was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Mayor Secor. that the Clerk of the Commission be authorized to advertise for bids for the sale of Special Improvement District Bonds No. 370 in the approximate amount of $1.700.00 and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting ~e being Mayor Secor. Commissioner Erwin; those voting No. none. Request for School Crossings The Manager reported requests for additional school crossings at the following intersections: Fifth Avenue and Mendenhall Street Willson Avenue and College Street It was decided to have the Police Delartment check these intersections for recommendations before any decision is reached. Bonds for City Employees Discussed Mr. A. B. Kalin. a representative of the Fidelity and Deposit Company of Baltimore. Maryland was present to discuss with the Commission a blanket Lond for city employees.
