The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
building, Wednesday afternoon, October 21, 1953 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Commissioner Lowe,
Commissioner Erwin, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk when the following
proceedings were had;

Minutes of the last regular se8sion were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded
by Commissioner Lowe, that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following
Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none.
City to Assist in Putting Up Christmas Decorations
Mr. Joe Hansford, representing the Christmas Decoration Committee of the Chamber of Commerce,
appeared before the Commission to ask that the City take over the maintenanoe of the street Christmas
decorations. He stated it was difficult to get equipment and men to do the work, and there was consider-
able objections to having the decorations put up on Sunday, and there was not suffioient funds to hire
men to do this work.
After consideration, it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the
City Manager be authorized to fUrnish four to six men to assist in putting up and removing the Christmas
decorations; the decorations to be put up under the supervision and responsibility of the Chamber of
Commerce, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being
Commissioner Lowe. Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none.
John A. Gates Confirmed as Regular Foliceman
A communication from Chief of Police Haas was read, stating that John A. Gates has served the

required six months probation period, and recommended that he be confirmed a8 a regular member of the
Polioe Department. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that John A.
Gates be confirmed as a regular member of the Police Department and the motion was carried by the
following Aye and No vote: those voting Awe being Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting
No, none.
Sanitary Sewer to Serve Property on Perkins Place
The installation of a sanitary sewer line to serve the dwellings located on Perkins Place was
disoussed. Beoause of the problems involved in establishing a Special Improvement District for this
improvement, it was decided the City Attorney should check into the procedure of ordering in a
sanitary sewer line to serve these properties.
Resignation of White from Library Board
The written resignation of Mrs. Edna Tracy White as a member of the Library Board was read. It
was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the resignation be aocepted and
the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Lowe,
Commi.sioner Erwin; those Toting No, none.
Annual Meeting of Middle Creek Water Users' Association

A notice of the annual meeting of the stockholders of the Middle Creek Water Users' Association
to be held Friday, October 30, 1963, was read. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by
Commissioner Erwin, that Mayor Seoor and/or the Clerk of the Commission be authorized to attend this
meeting and vote the shares of The City of Bozeman, and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and
No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none.
furchase of Water Meters
It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by CommiSSioner Lowe, that the City Manager be
authorized to purchase 26 water meters from Hersey Meter Company to cost between $500.00 and $600.00,
and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No votel those voting Aye being Commissioner Lowe,

Final Adoption of Resolution No. 750 -. Weed Assessment
The Manager stated this was the time and plaoe set for the hearing of protests to the levying of
the assessment for cutting weeds during 1963. He presented the affidavit of publication of the Notice,
and stated that no one was present to protest and no protests have been filed. He presented Resolution
No. 760, entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN LEVYING AND ASSESSING A SPECIAL
ASSESSMENT O-F TAXES UPON CERTAIN PROPERTIES IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, COUNTY OF' GALLATIN,
STATE OF MONTANA, TO DEFRAY THE COST OF EXTERMINATION AND REMOVAL OF NOXIOUS WEEDS FOR
THE YEAR 1953 PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ORDINANCE NO. 428 ENTITLED: It AN ORDINANCE
DEFINING AND FROVIDING FOR THE PUNISHMENT AND ABATEMENT OF CERTAIN NUISANCES."
It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seoonded by Commissioner Erwin, that the resolution be finally
passed and adopted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being
Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none.
Final Adoption of Resolution No. 761 -- S. I. D. 367 Assessment
The Manager stated this was the time and plaoe set for the hearing of protests to the final adoption
of the resolution levying the assessment for Special Improvement District No. 367, water main on North
Seventh Avenue from Durston Road to the north City Limits. He presented the affidavit of publication of
the notice and stated that no one is present to protest and no protests have been filed. He presented
Resolution No. 751, entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF' BOZEMAN, MONTANA, LEVYING AND ASSESSING A
SPECIAL ASSESSMENT OF TAXES UPON ALL THE PROPERTY IN SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO.
367 IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, COUNTY OF GALLATIN, STATE OF MONTANA, TO DEFRAY THE COST OF
CONSTRUCTING AND MAKING THE IMPROVEMENTS WITHIN SAID SpreIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO.
367.
It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the resolution be finally
passed and adopted and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being
Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none.
Damage to house, 406 No. Bozeman
The Manager reported that Mrs. Alta Price, 406 North Bozeman has reported that the explosion of the
tank at the City Yards has caused her house to shift and made cracks in the foundation and the walls.

There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
Commissioner Erwin, seoonded by Commissioner Lowe, that the meeting adjourn, and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner
Erwin; those voting No, none.
