HomeMy WebLinkAbout1953-11-04 2~)8 Bozeman, Montana November 4, 1953 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall building, Wednesday afternoon, November 4, 1953 at 1:00 o'clock F. M. Present were Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk when the following pro- ceedings were had: Minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none. Request to Operate Vending Wagon on Streets A request from R. E. Brown to operate a vending wagon and locate it on the city streets to sell I sandwichs was discussed. The Commission stated the request could not be granted. Claim - Bozeman Electric Co. A claim of the Bozeman Electric Company for payment on the installation of traffic control lights in the amount of $2,935.88 was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe. that the claim be approved and warrant drawn for its payment. and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none. Inspector for Testing Traffic Control Lights Attention of the City Commission was called to paragraph 21 of Specifications for Materials and Installation in the Specifications and Contract for Installing Traffic Control Signals which states that the Contractor shall have on hand a qualified representative of the manufacturer who shall co-ordinate and adjust the control lights, if needed. The City Commission stated that this require- ment in the specifications is needed, and the Contractor be required to have a factory representative make the testing and checking. Canvass of Vote The City Commission proceeded to canvass the returns made by the judges and clerks of the various precincts of the general municipal election held November 3, 1953, and that said canvass and final tabula- tionshowed the following results: Chris A. Haeckel J. Harry Healy 429 votes 484 votes It was moved by Commissioner Lowe. seconded b,y Commissioner Erwin, that J. Harry Healy be declared elected, and a certificate of election be issued to him, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none. Appointment of Board of Adjustment Mayor Secor announced the following re-appointments to the Board of Adjustment for a three-year term ending. November 8, 1956: Chris A. Haeckel Mrs. W. W. Spain Elmer Bartholomew Glen Harrington Grank Goodson It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the appointments be approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none. Reports The following reports for the month of October, 1953 were presented: I I I 'JO(} I-..Ill, Sanitar,y Inspector Fire Chief Sewage Plant Operator It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that the reports be accepted and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe. Commissioner Erwin; those voting No. none. Request to Sell Forget-me-nots I A written request from the Disabled American Veterans to sell Forget-me-nots on the streets Saturday. November 7. 1953. was read. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Commissioner Lowe. that the request be granted. and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe, Commilsioner Erwin; those voting No. none. Audit of Airport Board The annual audit of the Gallatin Airport Board for the period ending June 30. 1953 was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that the audit be accepted and ordered filed and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Secor. Commissioner Lowe. Commissioner Erwin; those voting No. none. Driveway - 304 West Mendenhall A request from the County Commissioners to install a driveway on Mendenhall Street at the proper~ looated at 304 West Mendenhall was oonsidered. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe. seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that the driveway be permitted provided it is located and installed according to the recommenda- tions and specifioations of the City Engineer, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none. Purchase of Investments for Cemetery Permanent Care Fund I It was announced that the Cemetery Per.manent Care Fund has $17.000.00 available for investment. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the Director of Finanoe be Attest: c~~~ Mayor authorized to purchase $12,000.00 of Special Improvement District No. 372 bonds from the Security Bank & Trust Company, and $5,000.00 of U. S. Government Series K Bonds, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No. none. Delegates to Sewer & Water School It was announced that the annual school for Water and Sewage Works Operators will be held at Montana State College November 4th, 5th and 6th, 1953. sponsored by the State Board of Health, M. S. C., Montana Section A. W. W. A.. and the Montana Sewage & Industrial Wastes Association. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that Water Superintendent Border and two men from his department, and Sewage Plant Operator Anderson and his assistant be authorized to attend this school and their expenses be paid from the Water Fund and the S. D. S. Revenue Fund respectively, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being MayorS.cor. Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No. none. Commission to Meet Tuesday, November lOth. 1953 I Attention of the City Commission was called to the fact that Wednesday, November 11th, 1953 was a legal holiday. It was deoided that the next regular meeting would be Tuesday, November lOth, 1953. Adjournment There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time. it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the meeting adjourn, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none.
