that the garbage assessment for the property at the above address be refunded or cancelled. He stated
that the tenant has for the past twelve years hauled the garbage from this property and that the City
has done nothing for garbage charge made. Mr. Wood was informed that service is provided for all
residence property. and that an exception could not be made for his property without making the same
exception for other properties. and this could not be done.
Request from Chamber of Commerce for Free farking
Mr. Lou Napton, Cecil Overfeldt and Harold Near, representing the Christmas Promotion Commdttee of
the Chamber of Commerce, appeared before the Commission and requested that free parking be permitted in
the parking meter area the three Saturdays before Christmas. They stated this would be a good publio
relations aot and that other cities throughout the country are using this idea as a sales promotion
plan for Christmas.
The Committee was informed that parking meters allow more people to shop more times a day, and
that their purpose is not for revenue; that not using the meters for three Saturdays would tend to
disrupt the system. It was suggested that all space in the free parking lots be made available to
shoppers on these Saturdays with the co-operation of the merohants and their employees by not parking
in the lots on these days. The Committee thought this idea would be satisfactory.
