The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
building, Wednesday afternoon, May 6, 1953 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Secor,
when the following proceedings Were had:

The Manager stated that he has audited these claims and finds them to be true and lawful claims
against the City of Bozeman and recommends that warrants be drawn for their payment. After examination
of the claims in detail by the City Commission. it was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seoonded by

Traffic Recommendations of Chief of Police
The following recommendations by the Chief of Police for traffic regulations were read and
discussed:
1. That Peach Street from Wallace to North Seventh Avenue be made an arterial Street.

Sanitary Inspector
2. That parking be restricted on the south side of Mendenhall Street between Third Avenue
and Grand Avenue during the hours Safeway Store is opened.
3. That a 4-way stop be made at the intersection of Wallace and Mendenhall Street.

After discussion, it was decided not to take any action on the recommendations until after the
Purchase of Copper Pipe
The Man~er requested authori~ to purchase approximately 4,000 feet of copper pipe for the
Water Department. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the City
Manager be authorized to purchase approximately 2.000 feet of pipe this month and aI-froximately 2,000

Recreation Director to Attend Training Camp
The written request of A. Glen White, Recreation Director, to attend a training camp for
Recreation Leaders in Chatcolet, Idaho, May 13th through May 20th, 1953 was read. It was moved by
Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that, it being in the public interest, the Recreation
Director be authorized to attend this training camp and his expenses be paid from the Park Fund, and the
motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner
Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none.
Petition for Portnell as Water Conunissioner
A petition to the District Court request ing the appointment of Ancel Portnell as Water Conunissioner
for Bozem&l (Sour Dough) Creek was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by
Conunissioner Lowe, that the City Manager be authorized to sign the petition for the City of Bozeman. and
the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor.

Hearing. Re: Increase in Gas Rates
The Manager reported a public hearing to be held in Helena, May 27, 1953 relative to an increase
in gas rates for the Montana Power Company.
Auto Court -- Mendenhall & Rouse
Inquiry having been made relative to the construction of an auto OJ urt at the southwest corner
of Mendenhall and Rouse Avenue. the City Attorney stated that it was his opinion that such a permit
could be issued under the provisions of item 52 of Subsection XIII D of the Zoning Ordinance No. 711.
It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Co:mmissioner Erwin, that, upon application for a
building permit for an auto court at this location, such permit be issued under item 52 of Subsection
XIII D of the Zoning Ordinance, provided the structure meets the fire prevention requirements in this
district, ani the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor
Secor, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No. none.
s. I. D. to Fave North Willson from Menderulall to Lamme
The qU8l!ltion of paving on North Willson Avenue from Mendenhall to Lamme Street by creating a
special improvement district was discussed. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe. seconded by Commissioner
Erwin, that the City Engineer be instructed to prepare the necessary data an d. based on this informe.tion,
the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the resolution of intention to create the district. and the
motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor. Commissioner
Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none.

The question of paving on South Bozeman Avenue from Story Street to Koch Street by the creat ion
of a special improvement district was discussed. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by
Commissioner Erwin. that ~he City Engineer be instructed to prepare the necessary data and, based on
this info rIm tion, the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the resolution of intention to create the
district and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor
Secor, Comnissioner Lowe, Commiss ioner Erwin; those voting No, none.
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time. it was moved by
Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the meeting adjourn. and the motion was
