The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Conunission Room. City Hall
building. Wednesday afternoon. July 8. 1953 at 1:00 0' clock f. M. :Present were Mayor Secor,
Conunissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin. City Manager Henderson. City Attorney Lovelace end the Clerk

by Conunissioner Erwin, that the minutes be approved as read. and the motion was carried by the follow-
ing Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe. Commissioner Erwin;
those voting: No, none.

The Manap;er stated that he has audited these claims and finds them to be true and lawful claims
afcainst the City of Bozeman and recommended that warrants be drawn for their payment. After examina-
tion of the claims in detai 1 by the City Corrnnission, it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by
Commissioner Lowe, that the clahlls be approved and warrants drawn for their payment. and the motion
was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye bei.ng Mayor Secor. COIllIllissioner
Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No. none.

Fire Insurance Schedule for Motor' Vehicles
A proposed schedule of fire insurance coveraGe on city owned motor vehicles for t;he year beJ?;innine;
,July 1. 1053 was presented. It was moved by Corranissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that
the schedule as presented be an-roved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote:

lturchase of Wa ter Meters
The City Manager asked authority to purchase 25 water meters for the Water Department at an
approximate cost of $600.00. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Corranissioner Lowe. that
this authority be ~ranted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting
Aye being Mayor Secor. Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No. none.
Delegate to State Firemen's Convention
It was announced that the State Firemen's Convention will be held in Dillon July 16th to 18th,
1953. Practice in past years has been to authorize two members of the Fire Department to attend

this convention, the expenses of' one paid from the General Fund, the expenses of the other paid by

the Firemen from their own funds and necessary replacements in the Fire Department durinf:~ the absence
of these men being furnished by the City of Bozeman. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by
Commissioner Erwin, that, it being in the public interest, two members of the Bozeman Fire Department
be authorized to attend this convention and that the expenses of one of these dele[;ates be loaid from
the General Fund and the motion was cB.rried by the following Aye and No vote: those votinz Aye being
Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those voting No, none.
Closing of' North Rouse Street to Lay Fire Alarm Cable
A letter from Montana Flour Mills Company was read in which they requested authority to close
North Rouse Avenue near the "Cereal Mill" for not to exceed four hours sometime during: the next ten
days to enable them to install a fire alarm cable crossinr the stree.t under1":round at this point. It
was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that this request be arrroved and
closin~ Rouse Street during the time required for installing this cable be authorized and the m8tion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Lowe,
Cormnissioner Erwin; those voting No, none.
Mayor & Mana{;er to Bid on Froperty fit Tax Sale
It was announced that Gallatin County will, in the near future, offer some properties in the city
for tax sale. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Cormnissioner Erwin, that the City Manager
and the Mayor be authorized and instructed to attend this tax sale and enter bids for the city of
Bozeman on each of these properties up to the amount of delinquent taxes and special improvement assess-
ments, including, all unpaid balances on special improvements, which are on record against the respective
properties and the motion was carried by the followinr; Aye and No vote: those votinr; Aye beinc Mayor
Secor, Corrmissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those votin~ No, none.
Increase in Basic Rate for Garbage Assessment
It was stated that, in order to have sufficient funds on hand to replace /';arbap;e equipment and
to me0t current expenses, the basic rate for garbage assessment should be increased from $8.00 to
$9.00. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the basic rate for
g;arbage assessment be set at $9.00, and the motion was carried by the following; Aye and No vote: those
voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Conunissioner Lowe, Commissioner Erwin; those votinr No, none.
One-Way Alleys North and South of Main Street
The question of making "One_Way" alleys of certain alleys in the Main Business District was
discussed. Pendi nr; further investigation and giving the matter wide-spread publici ty to se0ure the
reaction of owners and operators of businesses abutting these alleys and of truckers, deliverymen and
frequent users of' the alleys, no action was taken.
