HomeMy WebLinkAboutCIL application part 2Oak Meadows Park Improvement Phase 1 Summary: The homeowners and tenants in Oak Meadows are stuck in a unique situation. The original developers of the subdivision went bankrupt in 2008 before the park and playground was installed. The subsequent developer, maybe as a trade for getting the subdivision back on its feet, was not required to follow the original plan for the park and play area, landscaping, etc. They are both officially “off the hook” now, which leaves the homeowners and tenants to come up with the park/playground that they want. This is unfortunate in a financial sense, as it would be nearly impossible to fundraise the money needed, but fortunate in that we get to design our own park rather than leave it up to the developer. We want this park to be a shining example of a beautiful, functional park and playground built for all of Bozeman to enjoy and one that easily meets and exceeds the standards of this growing city. We want to have ADA access to the play structure and picnic areas, as well as high quality equipment, covered picnic areas and natural features. City Park, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Program: This improved park will have one of the nicer playgrounds in Bozeman, as well as places to hang out and picnic in the shade and out of the rain. It will be utilized by neighbors in the Walton subdivision and the 136 unit Larkspur Commons affordable housing complex. The park is adjacent to the open space between 12th and 7th avenues, and we’re hoping to spare no expense to make it a sturdy, safe, and low maintenance playground (Landscape Structures, modeled after “The Lakes at Valley West playground). We will be leaving the western half of the park as open green space for soccer practices, frisbee throwing, football games, etc. Volunteer Work: We have a crew of about 10 homeowners and helpers from within the Oak Meadows subdivision as well as the greater Bozeman area who have committed to helping with the project. The 44 homeowners surrounding the park have agreed to pitch in financially if needed. There are several builders within the subdivision who have offered their time and expertise as well as usage of equipment like shooting-boom forklifts and skid- steers. We are hoping for financial help from the Larkspur Commons project, but we haven’t received commitment from them yet. Cash-in-Lieu: The original developers put $102,600 in the Cash-In-Lieu fund when the subdivision was originally platted (2006). We hope to use all of this money, and more if available/ possible.
