HomeMy WebLinkAbout1952-07-23 149 Bozeman, Montana July 23, 1952 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday afternoon, July 23, 1952 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Secor, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelaoe, and the Clerk when the following proceedings were had: I Minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the follow- ing Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Bids for Miscellaneous W & C 1952 The Manager stated this was ~e time and place set for the opening of bids for the construotion and repair of Miscellaneous Walks and Curbs for 1952. He presented the affidavit of publication of the Notice to Bidders. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the bids be opened and read, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Seoor, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. The bid of A. Tobin, being the only bid filed, was opened and read and found to be as follows: New concrete sidewalk . . . 45~ per sq. ft. New conorete crosswalk . . 65~ ., " " . New conorete curb . . . 1.75 per lin. ft. Concrete sidewalk replacement 45~ per sq. ft. Extra excavation . . . . 2.00 per cu. yd. Gravel fill . . . . . 3.00 per cu. yd. The City Engineer stated that these bid prices are in line with his estimate and are the same as bids on similar work contracted during the past two years. I It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the bid be accepted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those vo ting Aye being Mayor Secor, , Oommissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Purchase of Property at Rouse Avenue and Feach Street On instruotions from the City Commission, investigation has been made relative to purchase of the property at the northwest corner of the intersection of Rouse AVenue and Peach Street. This property is owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, of which O. W. Monson is one of the looal trusteeS. Consideration of purchase of this property was to enable the City to eliminate or correct the "off-set" or "jog" which causes a special traffio hazard at this intersection. Mr. Monson advises that the price of the property is $4,250.00. In view of the facts that it is unoertain as to when either Peach Street or Rouse Avenue may be built into improved or paved streets and that funds have not been provided in the current budget for such a purpose, it was decided to take no action at this time. Report The report of the Director of Finanoe for the month of June, 1952 was presented. It was moved I by Commissioner Lowe. seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that the report be aocepted and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Comndssioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Salary Ordinance No. 769 " The MaIl'ager stated the salary ordinance for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1963, fixing salaries of heads of the departments and employees of the City Commission, has been prepared. He presented Ordinance No. 769, entitled: . AN ORDIl'fANCE OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA FIXING THE MONTHLY SALARY AND OFFICIAL BOND OF THE CITY MANAGD. nm HEADSOP DIP.A.!n'tmf'l'8, AND THE EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY COMMISSION AS REQUIRED BY LAW. 150 It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the ordinance be passed and adopted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Appropriation Ordinance No. 770 The annual appropriation ordinance No. 770, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1953, was introduced and read. entitled: AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING MONIES FOR EXPENDITURES DEEMED NECESSARY AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH I BUOOETORY REQUIREMENTS FOR MAINTENANCE ETC., OF THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN. MONTANA FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 1953. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the ordinance be provisionally passed and July 30. 1952 be set as the date for public hearing. and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor. Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe, those voting No. none. C le. ims Claims Nos. 4252 end 4253 on the General Fund in the amount of '197.11 were presented. After examination of the claims by the Commission. it was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Commissioner Lowe. that the claims be approved and warrants drawn for their payment and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Secor. Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Application for Circus License The application of the Gallatin Shrine Club for a city lioense for Wallace Brothers Circus to show in Bozeman on August 11. 1952 was presented and read. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe. seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that the application be approved and the license issued. subject to the payment of a fee of $100.00. and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye I being Mayor Secor. Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No. none. Improvements to Dwelling at Sewage Plant The matter of improvements at the dwelling at the sewage plant was discussed. The proposed improvements are to oonsist ot enlarging the present living room by rebuilding the front porch and making it a part of that room. The estimated cost of the improvements is $1.300.00 or less. Since it 1s impraotical to have detailed plans and speoifications drawn to oover this work. it was moved by Commissioner Lowe. seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that the City Manager be and is hereby authorized to purohase the necessary material and hire the necessary labor to have the work comFleted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No votel those voting Aye being Mayor Seoor. Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No. none.
