Dear Commissioners-
I understand you are in session now, so in case any of you are checking your emails, I'll be brief. I just became
aware of recent and dramatic changes to the STR proposal.
I urge you to grandfather in all the existing short term rentals out of respect and courtesy to those that have been
making providing this service to visitors for the past several decades. Banning current STR's will not provide
any benefits and will not guarantee that they turn back into long term residences. The city may also face
expensive law suits since current STR owners have been advised AGAINST getting Conditional Use Permits-
as I've been told by one of the owners.
I appreciate using downtown STR's in other towns when I travel and am completely comfortable with those that
exist here- even the ones I live next to. The homes are well maintained, the renters are respectful, and the
owner still pays taxes.
STR's are an excellent alternative to hotels and provide families with affordable methods for travel by being
able to cook at "home" and walk places instead of driving into downtown in their cars.
Instead, consider a cap on the total number, making sure all are licensed and up to code, etc. But please do not
ban them completely from neighborhoods.
Thank you.
