The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
Building, Wednesday afternoon, May 16, 1951 at 1;00 o'clock f. M. Present were Mayor Lowe, Commissioner
Secor, Commissioner Healy, City Manager Henderson, Ci~ Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk when the follow-
ing froceedings were had;

Minutes of the regular session of May 9, 1951 were read and it was moved by Commissioner Healy,
seconded by Commissioner Secor, that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the
following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor and Commissioner
Healy; those voting No, none.
Ordinance No. 756 -- Vacating Alley Block 5. Werre's Rearrangement
The Manager stated the City Attorney as instructed has frepared the ordinance vacating the alley
in Block 5 of Werre's Rearrangement to the West Side Addition. He Fresented Ordinance No. 756, entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF' THE CITY OF' BOZEMAN, MONTANA, VACATING THE .ALLEY IN BLOCK FIVE OF WERRE'S
RF..ARRANGEMENT OF' THE WEST SIDE ADDITION TO THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA.
It was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Secor, that the ordinance be passed
and adopted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: tilose voting Aye being Mayor
Lowe, Commissioner Secor and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
Lights for Parking Lots
Advisability of installing lights in those parking lots which are being purchased by the City was
discussed. After consideration, it was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Secor,
that the City Manager be authorized to contract for not to exceed two 6000 lumen lights for each of the
parking lots at Black and Olive, Tracy and Babcock, and Rouse and Babcock Streets, and the motion was

carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor and
Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
Donation for Book PUrchases
The Manager stated the Theatre Arts Section of the Bozeman Women's Club has given the Library
$150.00 to be used for the purchase of books at the Library pertaining to the theatre. This reading
material will be available to the cl ub and the public.
Rents Decontrolled
A communication from Tighe E. Woods, Housing Expediter, was read, stating an amendment to the rent
regulations has bean issued to decontrol rents in Bozeman, effective May 9, 1951.
Meeting to be Held May 31. 1951
The Manager called attention to the fact that the last regular meeting day in May falls on May 30th,
Memorial Day, which is a legal holid~. It was moved by Commissioner Secor, seconded by Commissioner
Healy, that the regular meeting of the Ci~ Commission in May be held on Thursday, May 31, 1951, and the
motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye beinb Mayor Lowe, Commissioner
Secor and Commissioner HealYJ those voting No, none.
Band to PIBY at Dedication of Airport Administration Building

The Manager stated the Airport Board has made verbal request for Bozeman Municipal Band to aprear
and play at the dedication of the Administration Building at Gallatin Field on Sund~. June 10, 1951. It
was moved by Commissioner Healy, seconded by Commissioner Secor, that the Bozeman Municipal Band be
authorized to play at said dedication, this appearance to be considered one of their regular concerts,
and the motion was carried by the following Aye am No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe,
Commissioner Secor and Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
Bids for W & C 1951
The Manager stated tiat there will be anroximately 17,000 square feet of sidewalk and 1,800 square

feet of crosswalks to be constructed by city contract during the season of 1951. It was moved by
Commissioner Secor, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the Clerk of the Commission be authorized to
advertise bids for the above approximate ~lounts of walk and the motion was carried by the following
Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor and Commissioner Healy; those
voting No. none.
Joint Meeting of City & County Commissioners. Re Cemetery
County Commissioners of Galla tin County and the members of the Cerretery Board met with the City
Commission to discuss financial affairs of Sunset Hills Cemetery. City Manager Henderson reviewed
tile financial condition of the Cemetery Fund concluding the cemetery can not be operated at the present
level without addit:\onal revenue. Fossibil ity of formation of a cemetery district end a city and county
tax levy were discussed, and also the question of the County Commissioners being legally able to make
a levy for cemetery purposes without the formation of a cemetery district was discussed.
After consideration. the City Commission instructed the City Attorney to work wi til the County
Attorney to reach an opinion regarding a levy by the County of Galla tin for cemetery purposes. and
the County Commissioners stated they would so instruct the County Attorney.
Adjournment
There being no further business to COme before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
Commissioner Secor, seconded by Commissioner Healy, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Secor and
Commissioner Healy; those voting No, none.
