HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-10-08 Bo z emaD, Montana -195 October 8, 1958 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday, October 8, 1958, at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk. The following proceedings were had: I Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Mayor Erwin, the t the minutes be approved as read and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No votel those voting ~e being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Proposals for Street Sweeper Representati.ves from Western Construotion Equipment Company and the Industrial Equipment Company were present and presented proposals for a lease-purchase agreement for a street sweeper. After each representative was given an opportunity to explain features of his sweeper and details of the proposal presented, the matter was referred to the City Engineer for further study and tabulation of figures. Extension of Water Service - 405 South 5th Isam Love, 405 South Fifth Avenue, was present relative to problems arising from renewal of the water service to his property. In addition to water service to his residence at this address, the service has for many years been extended to a small building on the rear of the property which is used as a combination apartment and garage. The water line to this building was taken off ahead of the meter. In view of the pol icy of this City not to permit separate buildings used as residences to be conneoted to a single water service, renewal of this service is oonsidered as not complying with that policy. Sinoe the apartment in question is very small and has been served with water for many years, I the City Manager was direoted to permit the service to be oontinued contingent on its being connected to the house side of the meter. S. ______________ 772.32 $156,485.62 The Manager stated that he has audited these claims and finds them to be true and lawful claims against the City of Bozeman and recommends that warrants be issued for their payment. After examina- tion of the claims in detail and checking against the claim register, it was moved by Commissioner I Swanson, seconded by Mayor Erwin, that the olaims be approved and warrants issued for their payment and the motion was carried by the following .Aye and No votel those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin and Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Reports The following reports for the month of September, 1958 were presentedl Librarian Police Judge Sanitary Inspector Chief of Police and the annual audit of the Gallatin Field Board. , 1 ~}{) It was moved by Mayor Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that these reports be accepted and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: tl.ose vo ting Aye being Mayor Erwin and Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Resolution No. 930 -- Assessing W & C 1958 Resolution No. 930 assessing cost of repair and/or construction of new sidewalks for the year 1958 in the amount of $1,966.96 was presented, entitledl: I A RESOLUTION OF' TH~ COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN LEVYING AND ASSESSING A SPECIAL ASSESS- MENT OF TAXES UPON CERTAIN PROPERTIES IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, COUNTY OF GALLATIN, STATE OF MONTANA, TO DEFRAY THE COST OF CONSTRUCTING AND INSTAlLING AND/OR REFAIRING MISCELLANEOUS SIDEWALKS .AND CURBS DURING THE YEAR 1958. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded qy Mayor Erwin, that the resolution be provisionally passed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote& those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin and Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Resolution No. 931 -- Assessing S. I. D. No. 398 Resolution No. 931, assessing cost of oonstruction of Special Improvement District No. 398 in the amount of $100,183.71 was presented, entitledl A RESOLU1'ION OF THE COhiiMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA, LEVYING AND ASSESSING A SPECIAL ASSESSMENT OF TAXES UPON ALL THE PROPERTY" IN SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO. 398 IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, COUNTY OF GALLATIN, STATE OF MONTANA, TO DEFRAY THE COST OF CONSTRUCTING AND MAKING THE IMPROVEMENTS WITHIN SAID SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO. 398. It was moved by Mayor Erwin, seoonded by Commissioner Swanson, that the resolution be Frovisionally adopted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin and Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Meeting of Planning Board Offioials A meeting of Planning Board officials will be held in Helena, Ootober 24 and 25, 1958. It was I moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Mayor Erwin, that the Mayor, City Manager, City Engineer. and city representatives on the Plan Board, or alternates, be authorized to attend this meeting and their expenses be paid from the General Fund and the motion was oarried by the following ~e and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin and Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Western Subdivision Approved A communication from the City-County Plan Board recommending the approval of the Western Sub- division plat, which property lies approximately one-half miles west of the city limits, was read. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Mayor Erwin, that the recommendation be approved and that the Director of Public Service be authorized to approve the plat and the motion was carried by the following ~e and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin and Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Traffic __ Elimination of Stop Signs on Babcock west of Eighth Avenue A communioation from Chief of Police Saunders was read, stating that, after a study of traffic volumes on Babcock Street west of Eight Avenue, he recommends that the stop signs be eliminated on Babcock Street west of Eighth Avenue. Before any action was taken, it was decided to give further study to traffic volumes on Eighth Avenue on all streets and avenues west of Eighth Avenue, and at I Grand Avenue and Main Street. Proposal of Montana Flour Mills to Sell Water Rights Rejected Proposa.l of the MontenaFlour Mills to sell their water rights in Bozeman Creek and ditch rights in the MacAdow Ditch was further considered. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Mayor Erwin, that the City Manager be instructed to inform the Montana Hour Mills Inc., that, after investigation, the city has no interest in the purchase of the water rights and ditch rights at the present time and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No votel those voting Aye being .197 Mayor Erwin and Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
