Subject: Re: Strategic Plan vision, goals, before city Monday
Here are a few specific comments on the Strategic Plan:
Vision Statements:
Vision Statement #4- I think "maintain" is an insufficient goal. I'd suggest, "We seek to
constantly improve our community's quality of life..."
Strategies:
Strategy 2.4. I think the text language here is something of a mess. The headline is
"Partnerships to spur Economic Vitality" but the one sentence text, while full of feel-good
words, doesn't follow up on that thought. Is the idea here that the City will pursue public-
private partnership's where it thinks it can get some real bang for its buck? If so, how about a
sentence along the following lines:
"The City will pursue investments in public-private partnerships when these can provide
maximum overall benefits to the community."
Strategy 3.3 I think we should do more than just welcome diverse groups. How about: "Ensure
Bozeman continues to welcome and honor diverse groups of people through policies in public
awareness."
Strategies 4.1 - 4.5 I am good with each of these Strategies. If it were me, I would add a
Strategy 4.6:
"4.6 Planning Coordination. Expand efforts to coordinate planning with Gallatin County and
Bozeman's neighboring cities to best achieve the above Strategies."
6.3. Should this say, "...increase the utilization of clean ... energy? I didn't think we were in the
business of supplying energy.
Nit picks: I would get rid of the word "expression" in Vision Statement #5 and the word "best"
in Strategy 7.2. IMHO, these words detract from what is trying to be said.
Best,
Hap
