The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
Building, Wednesday, March 26, 1958 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Erwin, Commissioner
Swanson, Commissioner Berg, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk. The
following proceedings were had:
I Minutes of the last regular session of March 19, 1958 were read and it was moved by Commissioner
Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried
by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and
Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Investment of W. S. 1. Fund.
$30,000.00 of Water System Improvement Fund investments will mature on April 4, 1958 and will then
be available for re-investment.
It was moved by Commissioner Berg, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, tha t the Direotor of Finance
be authorized to reinvest these funds in 90-day U. S. Treasury bills, and the motion was carried by the
following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner
Berg; those voting No, none.
Lease of Esgar Property for Parking Lot
A lease between the City of Bozeman and Rae Esgar for property at the southeast corner of
Mendenhall and Tracy Avenue was presented. The lease was e:n:roved as to form by the City Attorney. It
was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the lease be approved and the
Mayor and the Clerk of the Commission be authorized to sign the lease for the City of Bozeman, and the
I motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Cownissioner
Swanson and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Bond of Director of Finance - Shadoan
Bond of L. G. Shadoan as Director of Finance, in the amount of $60,000.00, was presented. The
bond was approved as to form by the City Attorney. It was moved by Commissioner Berg, seconded by
Commissioner Swanson. that the bond be approved and accepted and the motion was oarried by the following
Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg; those
voting No, none.
Work Schedule for Special Improvement Districts
A communication from Hoskins and Associates was read stating the proposed work schedule of Kiely
Construction Company on paving contracts. Weather penni tting, the work will begin on or about April 15th.
1958.
Plumber's Bond - V. P. Grant
Master Plumber's bond of Vincent P. Grant in the amount of $500.00 was presented. The bond was
approved as to form by the City Attorney. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner
Berg, that the bond be ap~roved and accepted and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No
I vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg; those voting
No, none.
Plat of Staffanson Subdivisions 1 and 2
Proposed plats of Staffanson Subdivisions Nos. 1 and 2 were presented, together with an agreement
obligating the said property, not including Subdivision 1, for the required lend for park purposes. The
agreement was approved as to form by the City Attorney. It was moved by Commissioner Berg, seconded
by Commissioner Swanson, that the agreement be approved and the Mayor and the Clerk of the Commission be
authorized to sign it for the City of Bozeman and that the Director of Public Service be authorized to
approve the plat of Subdivision 1 and, when the agreement on land for park purposes has been completed

and placed on record, that he be authorized to approve the plat of Subdivision 2, and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin. Commissioner Swanson and
Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Petition to Pave Dickerson from 14th to 15th
A petition from owners of property was presented requesting that a Special Improvement District
be established to pave Dickerson Street from Fourteenth to Fifteenth Avenue. It was moved by
Commissioner Berg, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the Ci~ Attorney be instructed to prepare I
a resolution of intention to create this district and the motion was carried by the following Aye and
No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg; those voting
No, none.
Petition to Abandon Parking Maintenance District No. 189
A petition of property owners was presented requesting that Parking Maintenance District No. 189,
maintenance of parkings on the east side of Grand Avenue from College Street to Arthur Street, be
abandoned. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the City Attorney
be instructed to prepare a resolution of intention to abandon said district and the motion was carried
by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin. Commissioner Swanson and
Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Engineering for S. I. D. No. 403
The City Engineer reoommends that Hoskins and Associates be employed to do the engineering for
Special Improvement District No. 403, paving on South Bozeman Avenue and East Koch Street. It was
moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that Hoskins & Associates be employed
for the engineering on this improvement district and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and
No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson and Commissioner Berg; those voting I
No, none.
Hearing - Special Improvement District No. 401
Public hearing on establishing Special Improvement District No. 401, as proposed in Commission
Resolution No. 884, which had been adjourned until this date, was re-opened. The Commission, after
consideration, deemed it advisable to further adjourn the hearing, whereupon it was moved by Commissioner
Berg, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the hearing be adjourned until April 2, 1958 and the motion
was carried by the following Aye and No votel those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson
and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Hearing _ Special Improvement District No. 402
Public hearing on establishing Special Improvement District No. 402, as proposed in Commission
Resolution No. 885, which had been adjourned until this date, was re-opened. The Commission, after
consideration, deemed it advisable to further adjourn the hearing, whereupon it was moved by
Commissioner Swanson, seoonded by Commissioner Berg, that the hearing be adjourned until April 2nd,
1958 and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin.

Meeting with County Commissioners - Platting Outside Ci~ I
County Commissioners Lewis Huffine and George Stu6ky were present to discuss proposed requirements
streets and parks in new subdivisions outside the city limits
by the City and the County for roads,
and within the boundaries of the Master Plan being prepared for this city. General standards were
agreed upon to cover these points and it was fUrther agreed that they would be drawn up in written
form for final approval by the Ci ~ and County.

Meeting on Drainage North of Ma~n tree -- rea
The City Manager announced that interested owners of property in the area between Mendenhall

Street and Peach Street and between Seventh Avenue and Grand Avenue, known as area "a" in the Hoskins'
report, would meet Friday evening, March 28, 1958, in the City Hall to discuss this proposed drainage
district.
Water Pressure for Tract Southeast of City
A communication from R. C. Wetherell was read, asking whether or not. if the Bozeman Deaconess
Hospital Board has water mains installed at their expense and under direction and supervision of the
I Ci~ to serve land in the southeast part of the city now owned and being re-platted by that Board,
the City would guarantee that such installation would provide adequate water pressure for proposed
building sites on this land. It was pointed out that the Hospital Board and the City have jointly
engaged Morrison-Maierle Company, consulting engineers, to prepare a study and report on supply and
distribution of water in this area and that no refly can be given to Mr. Wetherell's question until
that report is received.
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
Commissioner Berg. seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No votel those voting Aye being Mayor Erwin, Commissioner Swanson
and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
