The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room~ City Hall
Building, Wednesday~ September 11, 1957 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Swanson, Commissioner
Erwin. Commissioner Berg~ City Manager Henderson, Administrative Assistant Sales, City Attorney Lovelace
and the Clerk. The following prooeedings were had;
Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seoonded by
Commissioner Berg, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried by the following
Aye and No vote: those voting kje being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those
voting No~ none.
Request for Use of Portion of Parking Lot
Dick Ettinger~ President of the Bozeman Hot Rod Club, appeared before the Commission to request use
by his club of several stalls at the parking lot on Babcock and Tracy on September 2l~ 1957. The area
is to be used to display cars and set up a booth to solicit enrollment of members in the Montana Counoil
for Traffic Safety. The Commission informed Mr. Ettinger that stalls would be made available for use
by his club on Saturday. September 21. 1957.
Bids for S. I. D.'s No. 389 to 396 and 398
Plans and speoifications were presented by Carl Christopherson of Hoskins and Assooiates for
construction of Special Improvement Districts No. 389 to 395 inclusive and No. 398, paving and storm
drainage. Mr. Christopherson recommends bids be opened before October 1. 1957.
It was moved by Commissioner Berg~ seoonded by Commissioner Erwin, that the plans and specifioa-
tions be approved and the Clerk of the Commission be authorized to advertise for bids to be opened
at a special meeting to be held September 30th, 1957, and the motion carried by the following Aye and
No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those voting
No, none.
Bids for S. I. D.'s ~o. 365, 366 and 397
Plans and specifications for construction of Special Improvement Districts No. 386, 386 and 397 were
presented by City Engineer Liquin.
It was moved by Commissioner Erwin~ seconded by Mayor Swanson, that the plans and specifications
be ap:proved and the Clerk of the Commission authorized to advertise for bids to be opened at the special
meeting to be held September 30th, 1957. and the motion carried by the following Aye and No vote: those
voting Aye be~ Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commiuioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Crossroad Conneoting South and East Parts of City
County Commissioner Harry Droge, PresldentR.R. Renne of Montana State College~ :Bob Thomp80n~
Don Langohr~ Jr., and S. R. DeBoer~ Planning Consultant~ appeared before the Commdssion to discuss
possible routings for a road connecting the southwest portion of the City with the Sourdough residential
area. After some discussion which brought out several differences of opinion as to the best route, it
was suggested by County Commissioner Droge that another meeting of the interested parties be held at a
later date and the interval time would allow the gathering of additional and more specifio information
regarding different routes. Mr. DeBoer stated that his firm will have a prelimine.ry report ready on
street and road network in the Bozeman area in about six weeks and will have definite recommendations
to make at that time. All present agreed further study was necessary and another meeting will be
called by the County Commissioners for further discussion.
Platting West of City - Appollo Subdivision & Cleveland Subdivision
Proposed platting of Appollo Subdivision, property owned by A. G. Busch between Huffine Lane and
Kooh Street extended and approximately l20 feet west of the city limits, was presented by Mr. Busch.

Also presented was the proposed platting of Cleveland Subdivision~ property owned by Mrs. Vivian
Canfield immediately west of and adjacent to the Bozeman High School.
These proposed plats were referred to the City..County Planning Board for their study and considera-
tion with the recommendation that the Board meet not later than September 23~ 1967 to consider the plats.
Purchase of Police Uniforms
It is recommended by Chief of Police Haas that uniforms be purchased for the Police Department.

It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Berg. that the City Manager be authorized
to purchase uniforms for the Police Department to cost approximately i924.00~ and the motion carried
by the following Aye and No votel those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commiss ioner Erwin and
CommiSSioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Communication from Judge Lessley
Letter was read from Judge Lessley recommending the appointment of a Juvenile Police Offioer who
would handle all juvenile cases for the City and work in co-operation with the County Probation
Offioer. Although the recommendation is considered an excellent one. present manpower shortage in the
Polioe Department makes it impossible to institute the program at this time. It will be reconsidered
if new revenue makes it possible to hire additional policemen.
Cancellation of Bond of W. G. Lowe
Savings of partial premium on the bond of W. G. Lowe can be made if the bond is cancelled at
this time. The City Attorney advises that continuation of the bond is not necessary for the protec-
tion of the City.
It was moved by Commissioner Berg. seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that the bond of former
Commissioner Lowe be cancelled as of August 28, 1957~ and the motion carried by the following Aye and No

vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson~ Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those voting No~
none.

Water System Improvement Project - ~ Easement
Right-of-way easement agreement was presented for location of the transmission line of the new
water system improvement project across property owned by Paul Dudley.
It was moved by Commissioner Berg, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the Mayor and Clerk of
the Commission be authorized to sign the easements for the City of Bozeman, and the motion carried by
the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and

Petition - Requesting Abandonment of Parking Maintenance District No. 86
Petition representing more than 60 per cent of proper~ in Parking Maintenance District No. 86
was presented requesting the abandonment of this district, south side of Story Street from Sixth to
Eighth AVenues and both sides of Sixth Avenue between Story and College Streets.
It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Berg. that the City Attorney prepare
the resolution of intention to abandon the district, and the motion carried by the following Aye and
No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson. Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those
voting No~ none.

Street Intersection Light .. l5th & College
College authorities have requested the installation of a street light at the intersection of
College Street and Fifteenth Avenue.
It was moved by Commissioner Berg. seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that the City Manager be
authorized to have the Montana Power Company install the light at this interseotion~ and the motion
oarried carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being :Mayor Swanson. Commissioner
Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.

The Manager stated he has audited these claims and finds them to be true and lawful claims against
the City of Bozeman and recommends that warrants be drawn for their payment. After examination of the
claims in detail and ohecking against the claim register~ it was moved by Commissioner Erwin~ seconded
by Commissioner Berg, that the olaims be approved and warrants drawn for their payment and the motion
was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson~ Commissioner
Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
Adjournment
There being no further business to oome before the Commission at this time~ it was moved by
Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was oarried
by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson~ Commissioner Erwin and
Commi8sioner Berg; those voting No~ none.
