HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-11-06 3\8 Bozeman, Montana November 6, 1957 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday, November 0, 1957 at 1100 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Berg, City Manager Henderson, Administrative Assistant Sales, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk. The following proceedings were had: Minutes of the last regular session of October 30, 1967 were read and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none. Sale of S. I. D. No. 392 Bonds This was the time and place set for the sale of Special Improvement District No. 392 bonds, in the approximate amount of $120,000.00. Affidavit of publication of Notice was presented. The Mayor announced that the Commission was prepared to receive bids for the purchase of said bonds. Procedure for the conduct of the sale was agreed upon by the bidders present. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that written bids which had been received be opened and read, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none. The following bids were read: R. I. Diefenderfer Southwiok-Campbell & Company, Inc. and National Securities Corp. par 6% interest par 6% interest The Mayor then called for oral bids. The following were present to bid and qualified themselves as bidders by having deposited the required bid security with their written bids or by depositing such bid security at this time. Present and qualified to bid were: E. P. R. Erchenbrack, representing Grande & Company, Seattle, Washington Chas. A. McIntyre, Jr., representing Southwiok-Campbell & Co., Inc., and National Securities Corporation jointly of Seattle, Washington Arnold Huppert, representing Huppert Realty Co., Livingston, Montana R. I. Diefenderfer, Bozeman, bidding for himself. Bids for Truck for Cemetery This was the time and place set for opening bids on a truck for use in ~e cemetery. Affidavit of publication of Notice was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Berg, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the bids be opened and read, and the motion was carried. The following bids were opened and read: Owenhouse Hardware Company Mountain Machinery Company $2,594.00 3,200.00 I I I :ll!) Action on the bids was deferred pending study and investigation of the vehicles bid on. Water Improvement Project -- Change Order -- Purchase of Gravel A change order authorizing payment to Statewide Plumbing and Heating Company for 594 cubic yards of gravel used to stabalize the base for certain sections of water main and also including purchase of an additional 206 cubic yards of gravel all at $5.00 per cubic yard, was presented. John Morrison of I Morrison-Maierle recommended this change as necessary and stated the price was in line f or the work being done. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the change order be approved and the Mayor and the Clerk of the Commission be authorized to sign the change order for the Ci ty of Bozeman, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting .Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none. I Total- The Manager stated the. t he has eudi ted these claims and finds them to be true and lawful claims against the City of Bo zeman and recommends that warrants be drawn for their payment. After examination of the claims in detail by the Commission and checking against the claim register, it was moved by Commissioner Berg, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the claims be approved and warrants drawn for their payment, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none. Reports The following reports for the month of October, 1957 were presented: Librarian Chief of Police Fire Chief Sanitary Inspector Building Inspector Pl umb ing & Gas Inspector Sewage Plant Operator and a report from the Recreation Director on activities of the Youth Center. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that the reports be accepted and ordered filed and the motion was oarried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swenson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none. Communication -- Rouse Street Improvement -- Moving of Fire Hydrants I A communication from George Barrett, District Engineer, Montana Highway Department, was read, stating that fire hydrants now located wi thin the center 48 feet of the 60 foot right-of-way on North Rouse Avenue, which street is now being constructed under Montana Highway Department contract, will have to be moved to outside of that 48 foot area. The matter was carried over for consideration at the next meeting so as to give time for preparation of a map to show what will be involved in moving these hydrants. Canvass of General Election - 1967 The Clerk of the Commission aided by the City Commission proceeded to canvass the returns of the General Election, held November 5, 1957. The canvass showed the following returns: :3~)O Arnold M. Swanson H. C. Norwood George Covey Fred Staudaher - Hargrove 746 votes 276 votes 2 votes 1 vote 1 vo te It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Berg, that Arnold M. Swanson be declared elected to the office of City Commissioner for a four-year term beginning January 1, 1958, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none. Investment of Water System Improvement }unds lhe Director of Finance reported that, as of November 7, 1957, there would be approximately $200,000.00 of surplus funds in the Water System Improvement FUnd which oould be invested for approxi- mately ninety days. It was moved by Commissioner Berg, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the Director of Finance be authorized to invest approximately $200,000.00 in U. S. Treasury Bills due January 30, 1948, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and :No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Berg; those voting No, none.
