REPORT TO: Mayor and City Commission
FROM: Chris Saunders, Policy and Planning Manager
Martin Matsen, Director of Community Development
Chuck Winn, Assistant City Manager
SUBJECT: Continuation of the public hearing on the Short Term Rental Municipal Code Text
Amendment. Application 17016.
MEETING DATE: May 8, 2017
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Action
RECOMMENDED MOTION: “I move to continue application 17185 and related public hearing to
May 22, 2017.”
RECOMMENDATION: That the City Commission continue application 17185 and related public
hearing to May 22, 2017.
BACKGROUND: The City Commission directed Staff to develop amendments to regulations addressing short term rentals (also called extended stay lodgings or vacation homes). Draft regulations were developed and public notice was published for hearings before the Zoning Commission and City Commission. On April 24th, the City Commission held a work session to consider the Staff’s recommended approach. Several revisions to the draft approach were directed by the Commission. Due to the scope of the changes, the materials necessary for the May 2nd public hearing before the Zoning Commission cannot be prepared in time. Therefore, the Zoning Commission public hearing will be moved from May 2nd to May 16th. A staff report and draft ordinance will be provided to the Zoning Commission and public prior to May 16th. State law requires that the Zoning Commission provide their recommendation to the City Commission before the City Commission can hold its public hearing on the same application. Therefore, it is necessary to continue the City Commission’s public hearing from May 8th to May 22nd.
UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None determined at this time.
ALTERNATIVES: 1) Continue the public hearing to an alternate date.
