The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
Building, Wednesday, April 3, 1957 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Swanson, Commissioner
Erwin, Commissioner Lowe, City Manager Henderson, Administrative Assistant Sales, City Attorney
Lovelace and the Clerk. The following proceedings were had:

Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded
by Commissioner Lowe, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried by the follow-
ing Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Connnissioner Erwin and Commissioner
Lowe; those voting No, none.
Good Friday Observance Discussed
Loren Marshall, Chairman of the Retail Merchants Committee of Chamber of Commerce and Rev. Paul
McCleve representing the Ministerial Association appeared before the Commission to discuss the City's
observance of Good Friday. The two groups represented are endeavoring to get all stores and offices
to close for a three hour period on that day. They were informed that the City has made such
observance in the past and will continue to do so and the Mayor pledged further sup~ort either by
proclamation or news story urging others to so observe Good Friday.

Claims Nos. 7778 to 8010 inclusive were presented on the various funds as follows:

The Manager stated he has audited these claims and finds them to be true and lawful claims against
The City of Bozeman and recommends that warrants be drawn for their payment. After examination of the
claims in detail by the Commission and checking them with the claim register, it was moved by
Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the claims be apfroved and warrants issued for
their payment, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being
Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, nor,e.
Water Works Expe.nsion Project - Payments for Damages Discussed
Don Nash, owner of property through which the proposed supply line passes in the water expansion
project, appeared before the Commission to discuss payment of damages to properties where easements
ere required. Present easement forms state that damages shall be paid by the City after the work is
completed and actual damages to each particular property can be determined. Mr. Nash suggested that

the City should set up a set scale for damages and pay in advance when easements are obtained. He
wes informed the Commission would take his suggestion under consideration.
Request to Cut Curb for Driveway - 809 W. College - Evenson
Chris Evenson, owner of the Campus Clipper Barber Shop at 809 W. College, appeared before the
Commission to seek approval for a driveway off College Street in order to utilize parking space for
two cars on his property. Under his proposal, cars leavintj this perking space would have to back
across the sidewalk and back out into the traffic lane on College Street. Since his property is along
the alley it was suggested that the problem be studied to determine whether entrance and exit could

not more safely be made from the alley. This is to be worked out in the best manner possible by Mr.
Evenson, the City Manager and City Engineer.
Examination of Depository Bonds
The Commission proceeded to check the Custodian's Receipts of Depository Bonds to cover the City's
deposits in the various city banks, and found the bonds sufficient to cover deposits. After checking
the Custodian's Receipts, it was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the
receipts be accepted and approved and the list be set out in full in the minutes and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor SWanson, Commissioner Erwin and
Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.

Request for Pet Parade
The Management of KBMN Radio Station has requested the use of Main Street Saturday morning, April
20, 1957 for a children's pet parade. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner
Erwin, that the request be approved and the motion carried by the following Aye and No vote: those
voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.

Firemen to Attend Oklahoma A & M Fire School
Fire Chief John McCrosson appeared before the Commission to request that Jack Huber and Wm.
Penttila of the Fire Department be authorized to attend the Fire School at Oklahoma A & M in
Stillwater, Oklahoma on April 22nd through 25th. 1957. These men will be gone for 8 days but Mr.

McCrosson states that no extra men need be hired as the schedule can be worked out between remaining
firemen. The estimated expense is $289.00. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by
Commissioner Lowe, that Jack Huber and WID. Penttila be authorized to attend this school and the
expenses in the approximate estimated amount of $289.00 be paid from the General Fund, and the motion
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and
Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.

Ordinance No. 795 -- Naming East Main Street
Ordinance No. 796, designating and naming East Main Street, was presented, entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA, PROVIDING FOR THE NAMING OF A PORTION OF
u. S. HIGHWAY NUMBER TEN (10) LYING WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN.
It was m~ved by Commissioner Lowe~ seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the ordinance be passed
and adopted and the motion carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor
Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the meeting adjourn, and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin
and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No~ none.
