HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-08-08 I I I Bozeman, Montana August 8, 1956 177 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Rooml City Hall Building, Wednesday, August 8, 1956 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe, City Manager Henderson, Administrative Assistant Walter Selesl City Attorney Lovelace, and the Acting Clerk of the Commission, H. Dean Moore, when the following; proceedini;s were had: Minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commis sioner Erwin, that these minutes be approved as read, and the moti on was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Claims for the Month Claims Nos. 5844 to 6122 inclusive were presented on the various funds as follows: Band Cemetery Fire 'Relief Cemetery Suspense Garbage General Library Park Parking Meter Police Reserve S. D. S. Revenue Street Water $ 1.154.05 2,711.92 6,018.30 280.00 2,912.89 16,620.71 1,380.48 4,855.61 1,000.80 86.15 2,594.72 9,518.33 11.233.19 Total $60,367.15 The Manager stated that he has audited these claims and finds them to be true and lawful claims against the City of Bozeman and recommends that warrants be drawn for their payment. After examina- tion of the claims in detail and checking against the Claim Register, it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the claims be approved and warrants issued for their payment, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those voting NOI none. Rerorts The following reports for the month of July, 1956 were presented: Librarian Fire Chief Chief of Police Cashier Ceme te ry Swimming Fool It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the reports be accepted and ordered filed, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Rel-'ort -- Gallatin Ambulance Service Operation Report of the operations of the Gallatin Ambulance Service for the two year period ending June 30, 1956 was presented. The report shows that during the entire operation of the Gallatin Ambulance Service it has paid actual costs and the amount paid by the City and the County has been set aside as a deprecia- tion or replacement fund. There is approximately $5,000.00 in the fund and it is recommended that a trade of the present ambulance, together with the cash payment of funds on hand, for a new ambulance be investigated. Meeting -- Maintenance and Management Advisory Committee to the Montana HiGhway Fact bnding COllini ttee A meeting of the Maintenance and Management Advisory Committee to the Montana Highway Fact Finding; Commi ttee will be held in Helena on Thursday, Augus t 16, 1956. The City Manager is a member of that Committee. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that attendance of the City Manager at this meeting be and is hereby authorized and that his expenses for that trip be paid from the General lo'und and the motion was carried by the followbg; Aye ar.,1 );:) vote: thos e voting Aye ccir'G Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. 178 Inquiry by Bozeman Creek Heservoir Company Officers He Progress of Proposed Mystic Lake Road Kenneth Kraft and Herold Klumph, officers in the Bozeman Creek Reservoir Company, were present to discuss problems pertaining to Mystic Lake and to inquire as to progress that has been made by the City toward getting a road built to the Lake. They had no proposal to present. Resolution No. 814 -- Annual Tex Levy The resolution setting the tax for the year 1956 was presented, entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN DETERMINING THE AMOUNT OF CITY TAXES FOR ALL PURPOSES, GENERAL AND SPECIAL, TO BE LEVIED AND ASSESSED ON TAXABLE PROPERTY IN THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, STATE OF MONTANA, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30th, 1957. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwinl that the resolution be passed and adopted end the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Purchase of Folice Uniforms and Uniform AccesGories The City Manager presented a proposal to buy items of uniform and of uniform accessories, such as holsters etc., the total cost of the proposed purchase to be approximately $800.00. It was moved by Commissioner Erwinl seconded by Commissioner Lowel that the City Manager be and is hereby authorized to purchase uniform items and equipment in accordance with this proposal and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Special Lighting District -- Mendenhall Street A letter was presented from the Montana Power Company proposing the establishment of a Special LiCht- ing Improvement District on Mendenhall Street, between Church Avenue and Third Avenue. A similar district waS proposed and was killed by protest on August 1, 1956. The present proposal is for a different lighting installation and is therefore considered an entirely new district and not a re-opening of the district that was killed by protest. The Montana Power Company proposal shows that the entire cos t of installation, operation and maintenance of the lighting now proposed for this district would be approximately $1,600.00 per year and they have requested a statement from the City as to the extent to which the City would participate in the cost. It was moved by Commissioner Lowel seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that, if the proposed lighting district is estaclished, the City will participate in the cost to the extent of 25% and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swansonl Commiss ioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those v oting No, none.
