The COffinlission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Rooml City Hall
Building, Wednesday, December 19, 1956 at 1100 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Swansonl Commissioner
Erwin. Commissioner Lowe, Administrative Assistant Sales, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk. City
Manager Henderson was absent due to illness. The followinE proceedings were had;

Minutes of the last regular session were read and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by
Conunissioner Lowe, that the minutes be approved as read and the motion was carried by the following
Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those
voting NOI none.
Policy Regarding Painting by City Employees
Walter R. Patten, Business Agent for Local Painters Union, appeared before the Commission to
request amendments to the policy proposed by the City in letter to Mr. Patten December 6. 1956. It was
suggested that this request be made by letter to eliminate the possibility of any misunderstanding and
Mr. Patten agreed to do so.
Request of Gallatin F'armers Co. to Transfer City License
Request was read from the Gallatin Farmers Co. to transfer their City of' Bozeman business license
from 125 No. Wallace Avenue to 411 No. Seventh Ave. where they intend to conduct business identical to
that carried on at the present location. Since the establishment of a new business such as is now
operated by the Gallatin Farmers Company would not be an allowable use or occupancy eithe r at their
present location or at the No. Seventh location and since both the Application for License and the City
License state on the face that the 1 icense is not transferable, the request was tabled for one week,

for further investigation and preparation of a reply.
Report
The report for the Director of F'inance for the month of November, 1956 was presented. It was
moved by Commissioner Erwinl seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the report be accepted and ordered filed
and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson,
Commissioner Erwin and Comnissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.
December 241 1956 - Holiday
Monday. December 24, 19561 has been proclaimed a legal holiday by Governor Hugo Aronson. Investiga-
tion having been ma.de of the policy being followed by other subdivisions of the State in Bozeman, it was
agreed that the Holiday would be given all employees of the City and that all such employees who, under
present policy of the City, are entitled to pay for December 25th as a holiday will likewise be entitled
to pay for December 24th.
Sale of 4" Water Meter
The City Manager requests authority to sell to the Plumbinc Contractor of Galla tin County H. S.
a used 4" water meter that the Water Department has on hand. The meter is approximately 20 years old and
was purchased for $225.00. Present list price for a 4" meter is $561.00. It was moved by Commissioner

Lowe I seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the City Manager be authorized to sell the meter at 60% of
replacement cost less the price of a 3/4" meter and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No
vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swansonl Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting;
No I none.
Opening of Eleventh Avenue
Word hes been received from Hal Bolinger, Jr. that he will recommend to his clients that they
dedicate Lots 12, 13, 14 and 15 of Block H of Story's Addition for use as city street provided that 11th
Avenue between Ba.bcock end Curtiss Streets is opened to the full 60 foot width at no cost to the City

for right-of-way. This proposed location of the street met with approval of the Commission and they
instructed the City l.4a.nager to contact Arnold Taylor and Ray Hill to s.ee if they will, without cost to
the City, dedicate 30 ft. of the east side of' their !:roperties for street purposes where those
properties abutt r:aeventh Avenue between Babcock and Curtiss Streets to pr'ovide a 60 ft. right-or-way
for that part of Eleventh Avenue
AI'plication of Gas Tax Refund
A claim to the State Board of Equalization for refund of state gasoline tax paid by the City of
Bozeman, in the amount of $l,152.62, was presented. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by
Conuniss ioner Erwin, tha t Walter R. Sales, Administrative Assistant to the C1 ty Managerl be authorized
to sign the claim for the City of Bozeman, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote:
those voting Aye being ~.4a.yor Swansonl Commissioner Erwin and Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that the meeting adjourn, and the motion was carried
by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swansonl Commiss ioner Erwin and
Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.
