HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-02-23 Bozeman, Montana February 23, 1956 111 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Thursday afternoon, February 23, 1956 (Wednesday being a holiday) at 1;00 o'clock P. M. Present were Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe, Administrative Assistant Walter Sales, City Attorney Lovelace, and the Clerk, when the following proceedings were had; I Minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that these minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following ~e and No vote; those voting ~e being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Request to Close Portion of Curties Street I. M. Johnson, Contractor, was present and asked that the portion of Curtiss Street west of Thirteenth Avenue and which is approximately eighty-four feet long be vacated. The Commission stated the future planning of this area and the area adjoining the city would have to be considered before action is taken on the request. Opening of Alley in Block C, Original Plat Mr. I. M. Johnson asked that a straight alley twenty feet in width be opened in Block C of the Original Townsite the full length of the block. He stated he was willing to deed ten feet of his property for alley purposes. The matter of a brick-veneer building owned by I. J. Bittner and extending four feet into the present alley was considered. The Commission asked that the Manager's office contact Mr. Bittner in regard to moving this building and deeding land for an alley. Proposal to Cover Bozeman Creek North of Babcock Street I Mr. I. M. Johnson stated he would like to acquire the portion of Lot 24, Block C, Original Townsite, which is owned by the city in return for placing a concrete cover over Bozeman Creek from the bridge on Babcock Street to the bridge to be built over the creek when an alley is opened in this block. Proposal to Cover Bozeman Creek South of Babcock Street Mr. I. M. Johnson asked permission to cover Bozeman Creek with multiplate arches from the bridge on Babcook Street southeast approximately 120 feet. The matter was referred to the City Engineer for a recommendation. ComI-laint on Dogs Mr. F. J. Trunk, 209 South 6th Avenue, was present and asked what could be done to keep the dogs The report of the Director of Finance for the month of January, 1956 was presented. It was in his neighborhood from being such a nuisance. He was asked to inform the Police Department of any unlicensed dogs or in case the dogs were a nuisance. Suggestions to Maintain Water Pressure Mr. F'. J. Trunk suggested that all properties be metered in order to conserve on water usage and also suggested that pressure reducing valves be installed in all water services to prevent the waste of water. He was informed that the planning engineers were giving these matters consideration. I Report moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the report be accepted and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin. CommiSSioner Lowe; those voting No. none. Lot at Mendenhall end Rouse for Sale It was reported that Venus Seel, who purchased the "old county scales" has offered this property for sale. She bid $4,100.00 for this property at the time it was sold by the County Commissioners. The City authorized bid on the prol,erty was $2,000.00. 112 Skating Season Completed It was reported that the skating rinks have been closed for the 1955-56 season, and there has been a total of 61 days of skating. Gas & Plumbing Bonds -- Budd Plumbing & Heating the continuation oertificates for the Gas Fitter's bond in the amount of $2.000.00 and the Plumber's bond in the amount of $500.00 for the Budd Plumbing and Heating Company were presented. The certificates were approved as to form by the City Attorney. It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, I seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the certificates be approved and accepted, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none. Request of V. F. W. for Poppy Day A written request of the V. F'. W. to have May 19th, 1956 as their annual Poppy Day was read. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the request be granted, and the motion was carried by the following Awe and No votel those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those voting NO. none. Report Chief of Police Haas reported on the meeting in regard to Civil Defense he attended in Helena.
