The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall
Building, Wednesday afternoon, February 29, 1956 at 1:00 0' clock P. M. Present were Mayor Swanson,
Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe, Administrative Assistant Walter Sales, City Attorney Lovelace,
and the Clerk, when the following proceedings were had:

Minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded
by Commissioner Erwin, that these minutes be aI,proved as read, and the motion was carried by the
following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner
Lowe; those voting No, none.
Ch-arge for Fire Call Outside City Limits -- Alfred AbeUn
It was reported that on February 17th, 1956 the Fire Department made a fire call to the Alfred
Abelin home at 798 South Church Avenue. Two men and two trucks answered the call. The Commission
was informed that at the regular charge for the trucks and men the total bill is $106.00, and Mr.
Abelin would be billed for this amount.
Board of Adjustment Recommendations
It was reported that at a public hearing held by the Board of Adjustment on February 28th, 1956,
the Board of Adjustment approved the recommendations of the Municipal Plan Board to zone all unzoned
areas in the City, to establish a Light Industrial District, and prohibit the construction of
residences in the Industrial Zone.
It was moved by Cormnissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the City Attorney be
instructed to prepare an amendment to the Zoning Ordinance incorporating these recommendations into

the Zoning Ordinance, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting
Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.
Request to Use Public Address System
Don Johnson, a Montana State College student representing the World University Service, was
present to ask permission to use a public address system on a car during April 6th and 7th, 1956, to
promote a "car wash" being sponsored by their organization to raise funds for needy foreign students
and professors. He was informed that the City does not authorize the use of public address systems,
but that his organization could operate one and if there were any objections, the operation would have
to be stopped.
Request for Street Light
Requests for intersection lights were reported at the following locations:
1. Marwyn Addition
2. North Grand & Aspen Street
It was llloved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the Acting City Manager be
authorized to have the Montana Power Company install intersection street lights at these two locations,
and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson,

Request for Parking Meters
It was reported that the County Commissioners have requested that parking meters be installed
on North Third Avenue. Because the County of Gallatin plans to install new curb and sidewalk along
the Court House property in the near future, it was decided to make further investigation before
meters are installed here.
Mayor to Serve on City-County Health Board
It was moved by Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that Mayor Swanson be the
city's representative on the City-County Health Board, and the motion was carried by the following

Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe;
those voting No, none.
Report on Parking Space if Bozeman Creek is Covered
s. D. Waldorf, City Engineer, reported that if I. M. Johnson, Contractor, covers Bozeman Creek
as he proposes with a conorete culvert and builds a building on Lot 24, adjoining the creek, it is
his opinion that no parking spaces will be lost in the parking lot. The Commission asked that Mr.
Johnson submit a written proposal regarding the covering of' Bozeman Creek and the proposed building

on Lot 24 of Block C, Original Townsite.
Report on Building of I. J. Bittner
It was reported that if I. J. Bittner sold the brick-veneer building at the rear of his property
located at 216 East Main Street, for $3,500.00, he would deed ten feet of ground for alley purposes.
Bond Form for Eleotrical Contractors Approved
The City Attorney presented a bond form for electrioal contractors' bonds as required in
Ordinance No. 788. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Lowe, that the bond
form be approved, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No votel those voting Aye
being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Lowe; those voting No, none.
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
Commissioner Lowe, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Swanson, Commissioner Erwin,
Commissioner Lowe. those voting No, none.
