November 2,1955 at 1:00 o'clock F. lvi. Present were Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin. Commissioner Swanson, Cit~}' Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovela ce and the Clerk. when the following .rroceedings were had: 1 Minutes of the If3st regular session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Swanson. seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that these minutes be a~proved as read, and the motion was carried b;'l the followine; Aye and No vote: those v oting Aye being Mayor Lowe. Commissioner Erwin. Conunissioner Swanson; those voting Ko, none. Elimination of "No Left Turn" Signs in Center of Main Street Fire Chief McCrosson was present to discuss possible dangers of ":r-:O Left Turn" signs now set in the cen ter of intersections on Main Street. Operation of the new aerial ladder truck, which is wider and much longer than any previously used fire equipment in Bozeman, gref'tly increases the danger of hitting these signs. The ManBger was instructed to look into the Fracticability of putting; "No Left Turn" signs on the traffic signal posts at the corners of these intersections and eliminating those now set in the center of the intersections. PUrchase of Water Meters The Manager requested authority to purchase twenty-four water meters for the Water De~artment. The apFroximate cost of these meters will be $600.00. It wes moved by Commissioner Swanson. seconded by Co~nissioner Erwin. that the City Manager be authorized to make this Furchase. and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: th os e I voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Co~nissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No. none. Claims for the Month Claims Nos. 3625 to 3834 inclusive were I;resented on the various funds as follows: General :tf14,006.48 Street 5.440.69 Water 8.723.25 S. D. S. Revenue 3.777.04 Library 1,295.18 Park 1, 97 2 . 60 Cemetery 1,369.35 Band 44.29 Garbage 2.628.41 Parking Meter 1.848.69 Pol ice Reserve 86.15 Cemetery Suspense 130.00 Tot a 1 -- -- *41,322.13 The Manager stated he has audited these claims and finds them to be true and lawful claims against The City of Bozeman end recommends that warrants be drawn for their payment. After examination of the claims in detail by the City Commission and checking against the Claim Register. it was moved by Conunissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the claims be arrroved and warra:rts issued for their payment. and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commiss ioner Erwin, Cornmiss ioner Swanson; those votin~ No, none. 1 Storm Sewer for Dra inage a t North Ninth and Main Street City Engineer Waldorf presented a map showing surface drainage problems at the intersection of North Ninth Avenue and Main Street. Before Main Street is improved from Eighth Avenue west rrovislons should be made to meet the following problems: 1. Rerlace the wood 1-:ipe which now carries the Eighth Avenue Storm sewer drainage across Main Street at Ninth Avenue. 2. Build a storm sewer HS required to carry drainage from Ninth and Tenth Avenues, south 72 across Main Street at Ninth Avenue. 3. Build a storm sewer in Main Street from Tenth to Ninth Avenue to be connected to the sewer proposed to be installed across Main Street at Ninth Avenue. It was agreed that these should be handled as follows: 1. This should be installed at the genera.l expense of the City. 2. '1he City should install this but, if and v,hen an Improvement District is esta.blished to 1 provide a storm sewer system for Ninth and Tenth Avenues. South. tha t S. 1. D. should re-imburse the City for this fBrt of the installation. 3. '!he City should request and make all possible effort to get the U. S. Bureau of Public Roads and the Montana Highway Department to make this installation at their expense. Reports The following reports for the month of October. 1955 were presented: Recreation Director numbing & Gas Inspector Building Inspector Librarian Water Collector Folice J~dge Cemetery Board Sewage Flant Operator and the report of the Recreational Director for the month of September, 1955. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson. that the reports be accepted and ordered filed, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting; Aye being Major Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Conuni ssi oner Swanson; those voting No, none. Membership in American Public Works Association Request for membership in the American Public Works Association has been made by the City EnEineer's office. The membership fee is $30.00 per year. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by . Commissioner Erwin. that the City purchase such membership for the }~gineer's office. and the motion was I carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Amendments to Zoning Ordinance Additional amendments to the ZoninE Ordinance in retard to Junk Yards was discussed. Bids for Sale of Timber Required The City Attorney presented an opinion stating that if timber is sold in amounts exceeding 100,000 board feet from lands owned by the City in the Bozeman Creek watershed. such s al e shoul d be made only on celled bids regularly advertised as provided by Montana Statutes. Adjournment There beln"" no further business to come before the Corrunission at this time. it was moved by 0 Co~issioner Erwin, seconded by Corrunissioner Swanson, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was carried by the following Aye and 1\0 vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe.
