The Commission of the City of Bozeman met i.n reguler session in the Commission Room. City Hall
Building. Wednesday afternoon, November 9. 1955 at 1:00 o'clock F. M. Presen t were Mayor Lowe.
Conudssioner Erwin, Commissioner Swenson. City Mana.::;er Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the
Clerk, when the. following proceedings were had:
1 Minutes of the last regular session were read. and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded
by Commissioner Swenson. tha t these minutes be approved as reed. and the motion was carried by the
following Aye end No vote: those v au. ng Aye being; Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner

Purchase of Water Der.artment Materials - Idaho Pole Co. & Hamill Apartments
'The Manager reported on need for apFroximately 300 feet of 4" cast iron water mein to be used
in re-loceting a fire hydrant on prorerty of the Idaho Pole COID},eny, elso on neRd for approximately
200 feet of l~" copper r-ipe to repla ce the water service to the Hamill Apartments, 421 E. Main Street.
It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson# th"t the CHy Manee;er be
euthoriz.ed to purchase these materials end to have these two installations made with City rersonnel
and equipment wi th the full c oat in each case to be pe id b;y the owner of the property served by the
installa tion and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those votinG Aye being Mayor
Lowe # Commissioner Erwin. Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, ncme.
Sale of Bonds - S. I. D. 383
It was moved by Cow~issioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin. th",t the Clerk of the
Commission be authorized to advertise the sale of approximately $3,800.00 of Special Improvement
I District No. 383 bonds, the sale to be held on December 14, 1955. and the motion was carried by the
following Aye end No vote: those voting Aye being; Mayor Lowe. Commissior.er Erwin# Commissioner Swanson;
those voting No, none.
Purchase of Bonds for Permanent Care Fund
There is cash on hand in the Cemetery Permanent Care Fund in excess of ;5.000.00. It wa.s moved
by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Commissioner Swanson, the t the tirector of Finance be authorized
to purchase 15,000.00. Series K. U. S. G-overnment Bonds. sne pay for the same from this cesh balance
end ~le motion was ca~ried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe,
Commissioner Erwin. Co~~issioner Swanson; those voting No. none.

The Manager stated that he hes audited these claims and finds them to be true and lewful cIa ims
egainst the City of Bozeman, and recommends the t warrants be drawn for thei r payment. After examination
of the claims in detail and checking against the Claim Register by the City CowJnission, it was moved
by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Commissioner Lowe, thB.t -the claims be approved end warrants is su e d
for their payment, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote; those voting Aye

Agreement -- Boarding of Prisoners at County Jail
A I,roI;osed a[,reement between Gallatin County and the City of Bozeman relative to keering prisoners,

Request to Use Ladder Truck Denied
A verbal request from a committee of the Chamber of Commerce to use the new eerial ladder lire
truck to l~ut ur Cr.ristmps decorfltion was dis cussed. The Corrunission ir.structed the Mana[;er the t the
request should be denied. 1
Use of }'ire Truck - Muscular Dystrophy Drive
Firemen have requested to use two f ire trucks ane }ermission to blow the: siren on November 22,
1955 in connection with the fulusculer Dystrofhy drive. TIlis permission hes been granted in the past and
the Commission favored grantint; l.ermission flgain th is year.
Apfointment -- Chairman for Safe Driving Day
Mayor Lowe announced the 8fTointment of ~'i. C. Dorman of the Police Department as Director for the
City for the Safe Driving Day, December 1, 1955.
Communication -- Re: Signals at Railroad Crossing on South Church 75
In reply to an inquiry made by the City several weeks ago, H letter was rresented from D.W.
Amick, local agent for the Milwaukee Railroad, relative to installing crossing signals where their
tracks cross South Church Avenue at East Story Street. The letter st.Rted th~lt to make such an
install sHon <J t this eras sing is considered impractical fo r the fo 11 owing rea sons:
1. All rflil movement at this crossing is switching or similer slow sreed traffic.
1 2. View rAnge is adequate for all highway or street traffic if existing sreed regula-
tions are observed.
3. Estimated cost of fleshing siCnals of approved type would be 8lproximately ;;;'6,500.00
which is a I,rohibitive cost in proportion to existing, need <Jt this crossinG_
Charge for Fire Call
The Fire Depe rtment answered a fire cell to the 'Ninchester Ranch on Huffine Lane on November 5th,
1955. The Commission directed that a charge of $25.00 should be made for this call.
Canvass of General Municipal Election
The Clerk presented the resul ts of the canvass of the General Municipel Election held on
November 8th, 1955, which were as follows:
Howard Erwin 563 votes
W. G. Lowe 550 votes
R. A. Young 378 votes
Chas. Tinkerer I vote
Roy Winters 1 vote
8. Nf. Crenshaw 2 votes
Ches. Bell 1 vote
It was moved by Corr@issioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that Howard Erwin and
w. G. Lowe each be and are hereby declared elected to the office of City Commissioner and the motion
I was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin,
Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
Plat Outside Ci~ Limits -- Lovely
A proposed lIst or certificate of survey of a small tract, owned by J. V. Love I;}' , located just
south of the ci ty 1 imi ts and west from the line of South Church Avenue (extended) was presented. It
wes moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, tha t, subject to its rrior
approval by the County Commissioners of Gallatin County, the City Manager, as Director of Public
Service, be end is hereby authorized to aplrove the plat for the City of Bozeman end the motion was
carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye beint; Mayor Lowe, COlnmissionerbrwin,

Plan Board Members to Helena Arproved
It was ennounced that some of the members of the Flen Board and Walter Sales, Administrative
Assistant, plan to Co to Helena, November lOth, 1955 to confer witl. Scott Hart, Sta te Highway Engineer.

Walter Sales, Secretery of the Plan Board, reI-orted to the Commission on the meeting of this
board, held NOvember 7th, 1955.
