The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City
Hall Building, Wednesday afternoon. December 28, 1955 at 1:00 o'clock F. M. Present were Mayor Lowe,
Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson, City Manager Henderson, Administrative Assistant Walter
Sales and the Clerk. when the following proceedings were had;
1 Minutes of the last regular session were read, and it was moved by Comrr~ssioner Erwin. seconded
by Commis sioner Swanson. that these minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the
following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson;
those voting No, none.
Proposal to Vacate Part of Lincoln Street and One Block on South Sixth Avenue
A letter from Montana State College, by R. R. Renne, President, was presented in which it was
requested that Lincoln Street. between F'ifth and Eleventh Avenues. and South Sixth Avenue. between
Grant and Lincoln Streets, be vacated. Martin Whalen. Superintendent of Physical Plant at Mqntana
State College. wes present to explain background and reasons for the request. A map accompanying Dr.
Renne's letter showed that Montana State College proposes to build its new Health and Physical
Education building west and south from Gatton Field on a location which would cross Lincoln Street.
The map shows a proposed extension of Eleventh Avenue from Lincoln directly south for one-fourth mile
and a proposed east-west connecting road between Eleventh Avenue extended and a similar extension of
South Third Avenue. This east-west road would be located parallel to and one-fourth mile south
from Lincoln Street. The City Manager was instructed to request further information from Montana State
College as to whether or not these proposed new roads will be bull t at the same time as the H. and J. E.
I Building is built and, if that is not to be done, to secure a statement from M. S. C. as to when and by
whom these roads will be opened, constructed and maintained. He was also requested to secure informa-
tion as to what M. S. C. proposed to do as to improvement and maintenance of Eleventh Avenue from Grant
to Lincoln Street and of Lincoln Road from Eleventh Avenue west. Pending receipt of this information
and other detailed information which Mr. Whalen was to secure on proposed parking areas. the matter was
carried over for further study and consideration.
Report on Bozeman Creek Bridge Across Main Street
A letter was read from the Montana Highway Department, by Albert .W. Jones. Head Bridge Engineer.
reporting on the inspection made by their Mr. Hopkins on August l6. 1955 of the bridge over Main Street.
near the City Hall, which provides the crossing for Bozeman Creek. The report shows the bridge to be
safe for normal allowable loads and in generally good condition. It recommended certain maintenance
repair work and further inquiry is being made as to whether the Montana Highway Department, the City or
Gallatin County is responsible for this maintenance work.
Removal of Snow from Vacant Lot - College &: Eighth Avenue
Nelson Story III has proposed that, if the City will push the snow off from the vacant lots next
to the service station which he owns at 8th and College, he will permit this ground to be used for free
1 parking;. The Manager was instructed to inform Mr. Story that. if he will erect necessary signs to show
that this space is open to the public for "Free Parking", city-owned equipment will be used to push back
the snow as requested.
Bids for Truck for Water Department
The Water Department operates a 1939 Model G. M. C. pick-up truck which has reached a condition
where it would not be economical to expend the large sum for repairs which would be necessary to put
it in safe and serviceable condition. The Ci~ Manager recommended that it be replaced with a new
truck. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that an advertised call be

authorized for bids to be opened on January 18, 1956 for a 3/4-Ton pick-up Truck. such call to also
request an alternate bid for a. 1/2-Ton pick-up truck and the motion was carried by the following Aye
and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting
No, none.
Appointment to City Boards
Mayor Lowe announced the following re-apfointmen ts to City Boards:
Cemetery Board: 1
Amelia Hammer. term to expire December 31st, 1958
Roy Ayres, term to expire December 3lat. 1958.
Library Board:
Mrs. T. G. Haggerty. term to expire December 31st. 1957
Ed Howard, term to expire December 31st. 1957.
Recreation Board:
Mrs. Henry Gossack. term to eXfire December 31st, 1958.
It was moved by Commissioner Erwin. seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the appointments be
apfroved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor
Lowe, Commissioner Erwin. Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
Beer & Liquor Licenses
The following applications for City Beer and City Liquor Licenses were presented:

Oaks
It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin. that the applications be
approved and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor I
Lowe, Commissioner Erwin. Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none.
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by
