HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-11-17 Public Comment - K. Hopkins & D. Sigler - Black OliveHello Commissioners,
Thank you for taking such careful consideration of the growth of
our city. I request that you ask Home Base to lower the height of
the Black/Olive building design. Twice the DRB has rejected the
building's design as out of context for the historic neighborhood.
The mass and scale of the building just overwhelms the adjoining
properties. Black/Olive project differs from other recent high-rise
projects because it shares property lines with one- and two-story
houses. Their historic nature and home values must be considered,
because this five-story proposal will literally bury them.
We are not opposed to growth on that corner; it makes sense to
develop it. A three- or four-story unit would still achieve the goal
of downtown density, but the scaled back building would ease the
transition between zonings.
Ultimately, this building will not be the difference between valley
sprawl and containing our borders. Families with kids, dog,
campers, and multiple vehicles will still want to buy or rent homes
with more room, more yard, more parking. I welcome the
Black/Olive clientele downtown, but the urban dweller is not
pushing our town's borders. Building up in downtown will allow
more people to occupy this precious space, and I welcome new
neighbors.
We just need to be mindful of people who have invested their
time, money, and lives downtown.
Thank you for your consideration,
