I moved here in 1987 and my first place was the Blackmore #K. That was a bad intersection then with more than it’s share of mid intersection accidents. I live on Black St. now and go through that intersection regularly. It’s only gotten busier. It’s a confusing spot to start with. One way has no stop sign and the other does. It should maybe be a four way stop. This project is to big for the space, it does not fit the neighborhood, it adds more congestion and traffic to an area that was never meant to handle it. Do we really need another coffee shop? This project is ten pounds of stuff in a five pound sack designed to make a profit for a few at the expense of everyone around it and downtown in general. It will drive up rents for sure. When people see a two bed apt. renting for 2k a month and you are at $1800/month for your small southside 3 bed. house, as a landlord you automatically go to over 2k/month because you can. Car share is fine, but most people can’t realistically live in Mt. without a vehicle. Everything outdoors takes a vehicle to do. It seems like an excuse for the project to not provide enough parking to boost profitability, again at everyones expense. It feels like overfill, not infill. Let stuff like this go out and infill the checkerboard west of town where there is plenty of room for it. Parking spaces are additional cost but not mandatory? If that is the case then the first thing tenants will do to save money is park on the street. What about guests? Where will they park. Parking in that area is limited and always crowded now as it is. We need another downtown parking structure across the street to the east of the existing one as it is. This project does not add to the community, it only detracts for the gain of a few. Please don’t do this! Jeff Hetrick 1005 South Black Ave. digitalphotos@bresnan.net
