HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-05-25 :3 Bozeman, Montana May 25, 1955 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday afternoon, May 25, 1955 at 1:00 o'clock P. M. Presen t were Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson, City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk, when the following proceedings were had: I Minutes of the last session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Encroachment Permit for Mountain States Tel. & Tel. Co. An encroachment application and permit agreement between the Montana Highway Department and the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company relative to laying underground cable aoross Main Street and in North Seventh Avenue to Villard Street was presented. The permit had been approved by the State Highway Department. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the application and permit be approved and the Mayor and the Clerk of the Commission be authorized to sign the permit for the City of Bozeman and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No votea those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Leave of Absence -- Police Captain Saunders A request from Police Captain Saunders for leave of absence without pay for August S, 1955 to November 27th, 1955, both dates inclusive, to attend a military service school was read. This request I having been tentatively approved at the meeting of April 27, 1965, it was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seoonded by Commissioner Erwin, that the request be granted. and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Purchase of Road 011 from State Highway The following resolution authorizing purchase of approximately 25,000 gallons of road oil from the State Highway Department was read: RESOLUTION WHEREAS the City of Bozeman will have need during the fiscal year July 1, 1955 . June 30, 1956 for road oils for use in repairing streets and fOr sealing certain sec- tions of existing pavement within the City, and ~ the City of Bozeman does not have proper facilities for handling and stor. ing the needed quantities of suo h oils, and WHEREAS the Montana State Highway Department does have storage facilities and nonnelly does have quantities of the required type8 of 011s stored in Bozeman from which it can supply the quantities needed by the City of Bozeman, I NOW, TImREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That an emergency does exist relative to the proourement of road oils by the City of Bozeman and the City Manager is hereby authorized to purchase from the Montana State Highway Department. fram its stocks in storage in Bozeman, approximately twenty five thousand (25,000) gallons of road oil, this to be purchased from time to time during the fiscal year, July 1, 1955 - June SO, 1956, as needed by the City of Bozeman for repair and sealing of existing pavements. and these quantities of road oils to be purchased at cost plus normal handling charges. 4 Passed and adopted by the City Commission of Bozeman, Montana, at a regular meeting of said Commission held on the 25th day of May, 1956. s/ W. Applioation for Beer Lioense The application of the 7.Up Bottling Company for a wholesale beer license was presented. The license was paid under protest. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seoonded by Commissioner Swanson, that the applioation be approved and the lioense issued, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No votel those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Organization of Municipal Plan Board Members of the newly appointed Municipal Plan Board were present, and this meeting of the City Commission was recessed to pennit time for that Board to hold their first meeting at which they effected permanent organization of their Board. Upon completion of their meeting, the meeting of I the Commission was regularly resumed. Request for Parking Display Car on Street Denied The D. A. V. have made a request for permission to park "Hitler's Armored Car" on the street for display purposes. After consideration, the City Manager was instruoted to inform the D. A. V. that, except in cases of a general public nature such as the T. B. Chest X-ray vehicle, it is against policy of the City to permit parking of any vehicle on the streets or in city parking lots for advertis- ing or money raising purposes and that the display vehicle which they propose to bring here should be parked on private ground. Report on Meetings by Chief Haa. Chief of Police Haas reported on conferences he attended recently in Helena and Idaho Falls. Garbage Ordinance City Attorney Lovelace reported on investigation he has made relative to amending the garbage ordinance. He reoommended that no change be made in the ordinanoe at the present time. Gaging Station on East Gallatin A communication from U. S. G. S. stating that it is their intention to consolidate some gaging units with the Water Conservation Board, and future agreements on cooperative operation of the Gaging I Station on the East Gallatin River will be with the Water Conservation Board. The communication stated that the city's share of cost will continue at $200.00 per year. Arter discussion, it was decided to continue this service another year.
