HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-07-06 18 Bozeman, Montana July 6, 1955 The Commission of the City of Bozeman met in regular session in the Commission Room, City Hall Building, Wednesday afternoon, July 6, 1955 at 1:00 o'clock p. M. Present were Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson. City Manager Henderson, City Attorney Lovelace and the Clerk. when the following proceedings were had: Minutes of -the last session were read, and it was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by I Commissioner Erwin, that the minutes be approved as read, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Request for Sidewalk Mrs. N. E. Shuey, 817 South 4th Avenue, appeared before the Commission to request that sidewalk be installed on Fourth Avenue between Colleg;e and Harrison Streets to connect with the present walk there. Mrs. Shuey was informed that the need for a walk would be looked into and. if thought neces- sary, an order to have the walk constructed would be issued. Public Hearing - S. 1. D. No. 383 - Water Main on West Main Street This being the time and place set for public hearing, on the creation of Special Improvement District No. 383, water main to serve the new high school building and vicinity, the effidavi t of publication of the liiotice was presented, together with the Clerk's Mailing Certificate that all property owners have been notified. There were no protests filed, and no one was present to f'rotest. It was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson. that the City Engineer prepare plans and specifications fur materials, and for the construction. and the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the resolution creating the district, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and I No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe. Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Social Security for Employees Discussed The matter and procedure of establishing Social Security benefits for city emfloyees was discussed. It was thought that mOre publicity should be given this matter in order that public opinion could be obtained as to whether or not the city should make such an expenditure. Closing of Sixth Avenue for Soap Box Derby A request to close a portion of Sixth Avenue for the annual Soap Box Derby was reported. It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the City Manager be authOrized to have this street closed for the Soap Box Derby and that the City co-operate with Police service for this event and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being, Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Miscellaneous W & C for 1955 -- Contract It was reported that the list for the construction of new sidewalk and the repair of present sidewalk for the coming season is relatively small. Considerable time and expense could be saved if the present contractor would continue under the contract for 1954, and it was moved by Commissioner I: Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that, if it is agreeable with William D. Howells to continue the present Walk & Curb contract in force together with the bond, the same contract be continued for 1955, and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Corr~issioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Reports The following rerorts for the month of June, 1956 were presented, (Listed next page) lfJ Plumbing & Gas Inspector Sanitary Inspector Police Chief Sewage Plant Operator Police Judge Fire Chief Water Collector It was moved by Commissioner Swanson, seconded by Commissioner Erwin, that the reports be accepted and ordered filed and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those votinE; Aye being Mayor Lowe, Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Claims for the Month I Claims Nos. 2522 to 2755 inclusive were presented on the various funds as follows: Band i 133.01 Cemetery 2,887.26 Cemetery Suspense 250 .00 Garbage 2,464.06 General 12,384.88 Library 1,192.01 Park 3,860.21 Parking Meter 2, 801. 84 Police Reserve 86.15 S. D. S. Revenue 10.076.17 Street 6,509.50 Water 5,220.15 Tot a 1 - - - - - ~47,865.24 The Manager stated that he has audited these claims and finds them to be true and lawfUl claims against fhe City of Bozeman and recommends that warrants be issued for their payment. After examina- tion of the claims in detail, and checking against the claim register, it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Commissioner Swanson, that the claims be approved and warrants issued for their payment.. and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No votel those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe. Commissioner Erwin, Commissioner Swanson; those voting No, none. Adjournment .1 There being no further business to come before the Commission at this time, it was moved by Commissioner Erwin, seconded by Cownissioner Swanson, that the meeting adjourn and the motion was carried by the following Aye and No vote: those voting Aye being Mayor Lowe..
