Black Olive Project
To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Julia Cummings and I am currently a senior at the University of
Kentucky. I am set to graduate in May and move back to Bozeman. I am hoping to
work downtown and would love to be able to walk to work.
Currently, the only option I have when moving back, is to move back in with my
parents, or somewhere out of town. The rental market downtown is awful. I can
either move out of town, have a decent house, or I can move downtown and live in
someone’s basement, above their garage. Being able to walk downtown would be
amazing. Work, and a social life would be incredibly easy if walking downtown was
an option. Almost every bar young adults go to is on Main street. Walking from
home to the bars and back would never be a ideal. Figuring out rides, and Ubers can
sometimes make it too difficult to try and go out. Thus, not giving business to
downtown establishments.
With the proposal of rental apartments at Black and Olive, I was ecstatic. This would
be an opportunity to move out on my own, live in a great location, and have the
opportunity to walk places. Bozeman has a great downtown, but finding places to
live within walking distance is practically impossible. After college, living with
roommates sounds awful. Affordable rentals downtown are hard to come by, and
expensive.
The car share program HomeBase has proposed is incredible. For people my age,
with student loans and living costs, having a car share program, where you could
rent a car only when you needed it is amazing. The costs of having a car you barely
use, are astronomical and not worth it.
For people in my generation, the Black Olive project is amazing. Not having to own a
car, and being able to walk to almost everything is incredible.
Sincerely,
Julia Cummings
